It was excellent experience from the minuet I stepped in ,welcomed by friendly receptionist , spa staff are fantastic they were eager to accommodate me at short notice , the room was so clean , the towels are real fresh , dinner was so delicious and not pricey at all . Room Service was super , I was treated as a queen , and left with kilronen castle best scones which you don’t get the same anywhere else but in this castle , thanks chef , and lovely waiters Marie . Thanks pritish , Fanny and Georgia , and all people how I remember their names , the walking was amazing the minuet I asked about it at the reception I was given a map and umbrella because it was drizzling . I will diffidently come back . Thank s again to your great hospitality .

Can’t say enough positives about this hotel! From arrival to departure (overnight) … from front desk (inc. concierge!) … from dining to the Thermal Spa - our experience was definitely 4/5 Star! Friendly staff, clean spacious and beautifully decorated rooms, and food par excellence! Location is a little ‘remote’ but the scenic surroundings add to its charm. The ‘library’ is the most relaxing room in the castle - well worth a visit with a coffee in hand.

Kilronan Castle is a genuinely beautiful property with a lot going for it, but a handful of operational issues hold it back from delivering the four-star experience it promises. With some relatively straightforward improvements, this could be a standout stay. As it stands, it's a mixed bag. The good The arrival experience sets a lovely tone, a warm welcome, beautiful décor, and the castle restoration is genuinely impressive. Whoever oversaw the refurbishment of the ruins deserves considerable credit; it's a remarkable transformation and gives the property real character. The room itself was very comfortable, with a particularly good bed, and a chocolate Easter egg awaiting us was a thoughtful and appreciated touch. The thermal spa is a pleasant facility, the hot and cold plunge pools were enjoyable, and the sauna and salt room are nice. Dinner at the Douglas Hyde restaurant was served by excellent, attentive waitstaff. *(A separate restaurant review covers the food in detail.)* Layout and privacy There is an odd flow to the hotel that takes some getting used to. To reach the lift and stairs from certain parts of the property, guests must pass through what is essentially a large restaurant space — and the same applies when accessing the spa from the rooms. For guests heading to and from the spa in robes, this is a real privacy issue, and not what you'd expect from a four-star hotel. A dedicated guest corridor or more discreet routing would make a significant difference. Room amenities Robes and slippers were absent from the room which we thought was a miss from a hotel at this level, and particularly relevant given the spa on site. This is a straightforward fix and one that should be addressed as a matter of priority. Spa — a note on accuracy A steam room is advertised as part of the spa offering, but we were unable to locate one — only a sauna and a salt room were available. If the steam room is out of service, guests should be informed. If it no longer exists, the marketing materials need to be updated. Either way, advertising a facility that isn't there falls short of the standard expected. Breakfast — in need of a rethink The breakfast itself was delicious but the experience surrounding it was chaotic and frustrating. A long queue had formed, with the maître d' spending considerable time explaining the breakfast service to each group before being able to return and seat the next. Meanwhile, wait staff were visibly overwhelmed, and something as simple as toast became impossible to obtain due to the backlog. This is, fundamentally, a planning and management issue. The hotel knows its occupancy. At a busy time of year, the solution is straightforward: introduce a breakfast time sign-up system, or open the Palm Court to absorb the overflow. Allowing a queue of guests to stand waiting in a four-star hotel is not a good look, and the pressure it places on staff is unfair to them and to the guests.
