This guesthouse has everything you need and for the price is great value. The location is convenient; 10 mins walk from Termini and you can walk to Rome’s attractions such as the Colloseum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon etc. The rooms are a decent size and clean. Bed was comfy and shower was hot. Free wifi was also good. Feels safe for a solo female traveller. Overall, absolutely nothing to complain about!

“COSY RETREAT IN CONGESTED STREET”

Rudy is a so-called bed and breakfast establishment located very close to Roma Termini, the main railway station. It is located in a multi-storey apartment block, approached through a door opening on Via Napoleone III, a commercial street. One discovers that it is an old though well-maintained building – and it is equipped with an old-fashioned cage type lift, in perfect working order. The reception counter is in the flat on the top floor. The rooms are located in different apartments on the second and third floors. The rooms are well decorated with a mix of old and new furniture. The rooms and bathrooms are extremely clean. There are sculptures on the tables and pictures on the walls, which reflect the good taste and wide travels of the owners. There are facilities for preparing tea/coffee on each floor. One of the apartments offers a large kitchen with a dining table, where one can use the refrigerator and microwave as well. Good crockery and cutlery are available, but one must take the responsibility of cleaning them and putting them back after use. The elderly landlady is hospitable and helpful. Despite the wide differences between her Italian accent and my Indian accent, we were able to communicate in English! I had booked a room for two, as my wife was to travel with me. However, as she could not accompany me, I requested the landlady for a lower tariff. Although it was a confirmed booking and she was not obliged to do so, she gave me a substantial discount, for which I am grateful. I am also obliged to her for storing my luggage free of charge after I checked out. Apart from the facilities, the location is a great plus point if one chooses to walk. It takes only five minutes to walk from Rudy to Roma Termini railway station. Walking in other directions, one can reach the famous Santa Maria Maggiore church, apart from bus stops, restaurants, souvenir shops and supermarkets within a few minutes. There are literally hundreds of sticky notes on the walls, testifying the happy experiences of earlier visitors. The only minus point (the reason for awarding four stars instead of five) is the lack of breakfast facilities. One simply assumes that an establishment classified as a “bed and breakfast” will offer breakfast – but in this case one finds that the tariff does not include breakfast. Of course, there are supermarkets within walking distance and one can easily find something for breakfast, but it seems like a let-down. On the whole, Rudy is an oasis in the chaos of a busy and congested part of Rome. I would certainly recommend Rudy as a value for money proposition for students, backpackers and families on shoestring budgets!

Service was excellent, the room spotlessly clean and taken care of everyday. The price was very low, the location kept in mind. Breakfast (coffee and croissant) in a bar just down the street - no problem. Air conditioning is 5 euros extra per day, its recommended during the hot months. Remember this is a B&B so don't expect hotel standard regarding places to sit, lobby with sofas etc. Location is very good, close Temini (central station) and the metro.
