We chose the Hotel Sextum based primarily on its central location. We wanted a hotel that we could use as a base and still be close enough to the different surrounding towns and sites that we were interested in visiting. Not only did the Sextum serve us well here, it also gave us a pleasing place to return to after our touring. This family run business is conveniently situated on a road that leads in and out of town, as well as being walking distance into the town centre. There is also a good, quite moderately priced restaurant, Modligno, beside the hotel, as well as a cafe and a small shop. The management, who are very nice and helpful, speak very good english. This is a well run and pleasant hotel.The rooms are well maintained, there is a mini fridge, flat screen tv, air con, as well as free wifi. The included continental breakfast, served buffet style, offers you more than ample selections, (nicely served lattes). One morning we were treated to a fine omelette, prepared by our fine hostess. There is also free parking, a car definitely gives you an advantage and that's why you choose to stay here, because of its central location. You are less than an hours drive away from Pisa, Livorno and Lucca. Lucca's old city and its city wall being well worth a visit. Siena, a designated World Heritage Site, is situated less than two hours away and Florence only one and a half hours away. All of this is through the beautiful Tuscany region countryside, much to experience here! Also, I would recommend setting aside a day to enjoy what is available right at hand. Vicopisano, a hilltop town, just down the road from the Sextum, is well worth a visit, perhaps a good spot to spend the afternoon. A climb to the top offers a splendid panorama of the magnificent green valley filled with olive groves and vineyards. We were there at the end of June and there was a music fest being held. Across, from where this was taking place, there was an unassuming, but beautiful '11th century' church that you must see. Inside there is a magnificent and dramatic wood carving at the altar. Also take some time to explore the city centre of Bientina, you can grab a meal or enjoy a coffee sitting in the square. We went in on a Saturday afternoon and were fortunate enough to be able to take in the 'weekly' flea market. This can be a good place to find a special "gift" or souvenir. There is also some great supermarkets in town from where you can purchase the fixing for sandwiches or perhaps prepared salads for a "light and healthy" supper. You can sit in some park or square and enjoy a picnic, Vicopisano is a place that comes to mind! The Hotel Sextum and Bientina region is a place I hope we can return to! This area offers much to do in 'the exploring' category. A small sidenote: If you are hungry for a good, reasonably priced pizza, and just want a take-out, try De Stefano Pizza, 7 euro for a delicious medium size. This restaurant located on the road we took to Siena, a short distance from our hotel.

“A hotel to come back to!”

Good hotel with high rate of service, always a smile and very helpful staff. Clean rooms and good bathrooms. Air conditioner in the room made the heat bearable! Parking outside for rental car and close to many cities and villages, perfect location near Pisa and still close to Florence and the beau… more

Around the corner is a cafe, a restaurant and a small shop. We liked it a lot!

Great welcoming, good service, good price and the hostes are really kind and provide great suggestions! If you go through Bientina it's the right place, really suggested :)

“Reasonably priced hotel near busy road”

We wanted to have a place to stay that is equidistant to Pisa and Lajatico, this hotel fit the bill. The location of this hotel is not ideal - it is at the intersection of SP25 and SR439, as such traffic noise, including one generated by HGVs is clearly there. Otherwise the room is nice and clean, there is air-conditioning, breakfast is sparse but it is compensated by the coffee to order made by the host. There is nothing really nearby in terms of food or shopping so I would really recommend staying at this place only to someone who have access to the car.
