“Beautiful stay + gluten free friendly!”

Highly, highly recommend! We stayed here for two nights in June 2025 and had the most beautiful stay. The room was exactly as described and although very historic, the room was very clean with comfortable bedding and pillows. The property is positively beautiful, and everything you could dream of for a tuscan hillside stay. The staff were very accomodating and friendly and we had no issues communicating (we are Australian with very limited Italian). We are both gluten free and pescatarian and enjoyed a beautiful dinner at the restaurant (including entree, gluten free pasta, lovely fish secondi, and dessert). The restaurant staff told us all of the options for gluten free and we felt very welcomed. For breakfast, they provided us with packaged gluten free bread and pastries and we could help ourselves to all the other individually served accompaniments (eggs, tomato, cheeses, fruit etc). My partner is celiac but not too sensitive to cross contamination so I cannot speak to this but I can highly recommend this accomodation for facilitating our gluten free needs! We would absolutely stay here again and in the future we would plan to stay longer so that we can enjoy some whole days just lounging at the pool (instead of exploring nearby towns which is what we did). My only suggestion: the accomodation asks that no external food or drink is consumed on the common property (gardens, pool etc) which I can understand for promoting eating at the restaurant but as someone with a limited diet and given how many wineries are in the region, it would have been nice to bring some of our own food or wine around the pool or garden. A suggested compromise could be for the accommodation to offer a “picnic service charge” charging a small service fee / corkage fee per person for consuming external food on the grounds, because we would have happily paid a little extra to drink a bottle of our own wine or picnic food in the common garden. We had a lovely stay overall and the setting is absolutely beautiful – peaceful, full of character, and exactly the kind of Tuscan atmosphere you hope for. The property itself is charming and very relaxing. There were also some standout positives. The massage was absolutely amazing – truly one of the highlights of the stay. The jacuzzi and sauna facilities were excellent and very well maintained. The reception staff and waiters were also extremely attentive, friendly, and welcoming throughout our stay, which we really appreciated. However, the food experience was a real disappointment and did not match the standard of the rest of the hotel. At breakfast, the issue was not variety but freshness. Some items, such as the ricotta cake, appeared to be repeatedly taken in and out of refrigeration over several days without proper supervision. The pancakes were very hard and clearly not fresh, likely sitting out for multiple days. Overall, the breakfast felt poorly managed, with little attention to quality control or freshness. No chef was around during breakfast time. The same lady who would guide us to our table and prepare the coffee was in charge of top up and wash in the back. Chef would appear at the end of breakfast, not even look at the food and grab a coffee and his cigarette. Dinner was equally underwhelming. Despite the beautiful setting, the food lacked quality, care, and consistency, with limited options that did not change much from day to day. We understand that certain ingredients aren’t available but on daily basis? And if that’s the case, have a daily menu instead of a static one and people would appreciate it even more. We got options instead of what was offered and were terrible. It’s worth noting that if you stay for one or two nights, you might not notice these issues. However, over a longer stay like ours (7 nights), it becomes very clear that the same food is being repeated and that freshness and variety are lacking. After a few days, we decided to dine elsewhere rather than continue spending around €100 per night on meals that did not meet expectations. It’s a real shame, because with proper attention to food quality and kitchen management, this place could be outstanding. Overall, a beautiful location with great staff and facilities, but the food offering—both breakfast and dinner—needs significant improvement.

Set in the magnificent Tuscan countryside this hotel was ideal for us as a base to explore the medieval towns of southern Tuscany. The old Castello has been well adapted to its current use and the room we had was charming and comfortable. The restaurant built next to the main building was excellent and we had several enjoyable dinners there. Breakfast was plentiful with a buffet of fruit, cereals, cold cuts cheeses, eggs and pastries. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient and there was a sense of a genuine team spirit. Our only frustration was the inconsistent accessibility to the internet in our room, possibly because of the stone walls of the building. Overall a very pleasant and memorable stay.
