The hotel's reception area and bar are quite modern with some cute Japanese décor and homewares on shelves. There is also a complimentary 'amenity buffet' so you can pick up some extra soaps, shampoos, bath salts, etc. any time you need them. We had a washitsu (traditional Japanese tatami room) on the 3rd floor that was moderate in size but very clean and looks to have had a recent renovation as the bathroom was very new and modern. Imabari's main shopping street is just a 2 minute walk away with some nice coffee shops and homeware stores. There are also two Poeme stores very closeby where you can buy Imabari's local sweet treat which are perfect with coffee and also as a boxed gift idea too! The nearest convenience store (a Family Mart) is about a 5 minute walk away and Imabari Castle is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel's front entrance and makes for an interesting afternoon and has an excellent 360 degree view from the top. The hotel has bicycles that you can rent for free, however the seats were very uncomfortable and even a little painful (though it might just be me, as I haven't ridden a bicycle in quite a few years and am a big heavy Australian bloke!) Our futons were very comfortable and we had a great nights' sleep and felt very refreshed in the morning. Unfortunately we made the decision to go to the Imabari Kokusai Hotel for breakfast instead of having breakfast at Hotel Kikusui Imabari and we had quite possibly the worst buffet breakfast there. Really regret we didn't just stay and have breakfast in-house, as the food at Kikusui looked to have been far better and at a fraction of the price too! Couldn't fault this hotel and will absolutely stay again on my next visit to my old hometown of Imabari!

“Rental bike return; laundry facilities”

I came with my 3 twenty-something children. We biked the Shiminami Kaedo cycle route and this was our lodging at the end of the route. I came with my 3 twenty-something children. We biked the Shiminami Kaedo cycle route and this was our lodging at the end of the route. We rented 4 bikes in Onamichi and were able to leave them at this hotel to arrange return with no additional hotel charge. FYI, You won’t get your bike rental deposit back if you don’t return your bike to the place you rented it from. This hotel also has good laundry facilities; no charge for washers; driers are ¥100 for each 30 minutes - if you have a big load, you will need 90-120 minutes to get clothing completely dry.

We ( distinctly elderly) did some of the bikeway. Great. Taxi from hotel to sun route, electric assist bikes, gorgeous views - easy! Room was spacious and modernized. The bathroom was an older and smaller version of the capsule bathrooms found everywhere. We walked from the station ok. The location was very nice, adjacent to the port and the walking street. Restaurants were not that obvious, but the staff marked a map for us. Lots of extras available, shelves with pillows, iron, whatever, to just help ourselves. There were plenty of washers free and dryers not that expensive. We found that having one western breakfast ( with the coffee) and one Japanese breakfast we were able to meet our needs. Cafe over at the port building was good for coffee and snacks. I think most guests were bike riding.

This modern hotel is a 5 minute walk from the castle and 1 minute from the shopping mall. Our twin room was spacious for Japanese standards - it even included a sofa. The bathroom was tight and all plastic so no electric outlets. In fact, there was nowhere in the room to dry my hair in front of a mirror. The bathroom tap was shared between the sink and shower so if one person was showering, the other couldn’t use the sink. Never seen that before! However, the AC worked great and the beds were comfortable - softer than the usual beds in Japan. All in all, a good stay.
