“No complaints staying here....”

Toyoko Inn is a no frills businessman hotel in Japan; it's similar to Comfort Inn and Super 8 in the States. The rooms are small but functional. I've no complaints staying here because Japan is so expensive I rather spend my money on other things.

I came to visit my in laws in Sakudaira, Nagano. This hotel is very nicely located close to the JR station in Sakudaira and also about 8 minutes walk to AEON Mall Sakudaira, where we pretty much shopped for everything we needed. There were a couple of restaurants and cafe near by as well. The room is quite small but was still okay compared to other hotels, it was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff were very helpful and accomodating, we loved them. Check out was a bit early at the hotel, but we were allowed to stay in the lobby while killing time before catching the shinkansen to Tokyo.

佐久平駅に最も近いビジネスホテルです。ホテル内の清潔感、バスルームを含めた各部屋の狭さ、バスルームの設備がやや古いところは他のビジネスホテルでも多く見られる項目で、それらに慣れていれば特に不愉快と感じることはないでしょう。佐久平駅周辺もいくつか商業施設はあるものの基本的に静かであるため、夜間は特に騒がしさを感じることなく快適に過ごすことが出来ると思います。 一方、部屋数と比較するとエレベーターが一基しかないのは、部屋へ行く、あるいは1階に降りる上で待たされることが多く、少し不便に感じます。エレベーターのかご内も狭く荷物を持っていない状態の人が10人乗れるくらいの広さであるため、大きめのスーツ… more

The cleanliness of the hotel, the small size of the rooms including the bathrooms, and the rather old bathroom facilities are items that can be found in many other business hotels, and if you are used to them, you will not feel particularly uncomfortable. The area around the Sakudaira station is basically quiet, although there are some commercial facilities, so you will be able to spend a comfortable night without feeling any noise. On the other hand, compared to the number of rooms, having only one elevator would be a bit inconvenient. This is because you often have to wait to get to your room or to get down to the first floor. In addition, the elevator cage is small enough to accommodate 10 people without luggage, so if you have a large suitcase, you may have to wait even longer to get on the elevator. There are some restaurants around the hotel, but many of them are closed at night, not to mention late at night. Therefore, you need to be procured late night meals at convenience stores, but there are no convenience stores in the area. The closest one is about a 5-minute walk away. In bad weather, you might want to get some food before you check in.

This chained hotel group is famous in Japan. The bargaining point of this hotel is very near to the JR station. Instead of staying at Karuizawa, one can choose to stay at Sakudaira by getting off the next station following Karuizawa (of JR Nagano Shinkansen traveling from Tokyo). It takes around 10 mins from Karuizawa to Sakudaira. When you get off the train, you can easily spot the hotel even in the platform of the station. There's a big supermarket nearby, it's about 10 minutes walk from the hotel, and it closes late (at 11pm). There are also some restaurants serving ramen, bbq food, and burgers around there. Similar to other business hotel in Japan, the room is not spacious. You may find it difficult to open your suitcase freely, if it's the one in large size (e.g. 29" or above). But the room is tiny and clean. The hotel has breakfast provided and free wi-fi service at room. The breakfast is simple and in Japanese style. There are not many choices in breakfast provided, but it's suitable for one who wanna eat simple and light. However, I found the staff at reception can't communicate well in English.
