Kamenoi Hotel is an excellent base for sightseeing in Nachikatsuura. It’s conveniently located within walking distance of both the train station and bus stops, making it very easy to get around, especially for visits to Nachi Falls and other Kumano area attractions. The onsen facilities are a highlight — there are both indoor and open-air baths, and I really appreciated the shampoo bar with a good variety of choices. It’s perfect for relaxing after a full day of walking and sightseeing. Breakfast was delicious, with a good selection and quality that exceeded expectations. The hotel also offers nice complimentary touches, such as free drinks during certain hours and a free bowl of ramen in the evening, which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, Kamenoi Hotel offers great comfort, convenience, and value, and I would gladly stay here again when visiting Nachikatsuura.

“Big hotel with attractive indoor/outdoor onsen”

This is the last hotel we stayed at on our 7 day Kumano Kodo pilgrimage hike and the fanciest. This is the last hotel we stayed at on our 7 day Kumano Kodo pilgrimage hike and the fanciest. It's a big hotel with large Japanese style tatami rooms, and a spacious sunroom area overlooking the sea. The lobby is huge with plenty of seating and also a substantial gift store with tons of local food and snack products. The only traditional hotel where instead of turning down the bedding for you they just have it prepared and you are expected to lay it out yourself. Not a hardship just after a week of having someone else laying it out for you get spoiled. There is a very large indoor hot spring bath plus a smaller outdoor one. The men's side apparently has a larger outdoor section which seems to be the norm in Japanese hotels. There are a lot of banquet dining rooms accommodating groups on the second floor plus a cafe style one off the lobby. Banquet rooms have tatami so you still have to remove shoes/slippers but there are regular chairs to sit on. Food is fancy and tasty with many courses. Like it that you pick up your yukata robes in the lobby and they have different sizes and colors with samples hanging on the side so you can check.

My friends and I stayed at KATSURA KAMENOI HOTEL recently. While the surroundings, ambiance, and food were satisfactory, our experience with the hotel staff—especially one elderly female staff member—was extremely disappointing. We stayed on the 3rd floor, and throughout our stay we were repeatedly disturbed by this staff member. She made excessive noise while cleaning and repeatedly knocked loudly on our door even though she was aware that we were still sleeping. This happened on multiple days, preventing us from getting the rest we needed and causing unnecessary stress. We also noticed a lack of professionalism in the way she interacted with her colleagues, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere. Her cleaning practices were concerning as well, especially in the bathroom. The way she cleaned the toilet appeared very careless and unhygienic, making us doubt the cleanliness of the facilities. In addition to our own experience, some of our other friends who stayed at the hotel had the exact same concerns about this staff member. They also mentioned loud disturbances, unprofessional behavior, and poor cleaning habits, which shows that these issues are not isolated incidents. This level of service is not acceptable, and we hope that management will address these problems and provide proper training to ensure future guests have a more comfortable stay.
