In 30 years of tour holidays with my explore, intrepid and the like, this is simply the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The facilities are luxurious and the views breathtaking. The roof bar and eatery are excellent for just that reason.. a genuine hidden gem!! Come at sunset and have a beer.. you won’t find a better place to enjoy one in town!

Just spent 6 wonderful nights at The Elephant Crossing Hotel . I agree with majority of reviews : get a room on the top floors facing the Nam Song river and mountains and you wake up to the sight of sun rise . Even more spectacular is the panoramic view you get from the roof top bar ; the neon lights of town , the Nam song river and mountains . I never found a better view in Van Vieng . Breakfast not upto much but still you get to enjoy it looking at these wonderful views . I also ate burger which tasted yummy and drank beerlao on the roof top bar. One hiccup especially for those who are sensitive to noise : I don’t like loud music when eating breakfast so I escaped to the terrace where unfortunately there is building work in progress and instead of loud music I ate to the sound of a pneumatic drill . Maybe I am just getting grumpy in my old age ! Oh and another slight blip with no water one morning . But it was quickly fixed . Staff are all lovely , helpful , polite and friendly and even though I don’t speak lingo we managed to get by with the universal language of smiles and lots of thank you. A special mention to Mr Su , manager of the roof top bar who went out of his way to make me feel welcome (more than likely as I was travelling on my own ) . I left my sunhat and cooling fan in the bar and it was safely returned to me . And if you need the general Manager there is always Mr Ping Pong . Thank you Elephant Crossing for a lovely stay . And if I ever I return to Van Vieng, I know which hotel to stay in .

“Needs better service”

We loved the look of this place for an evening drink . We got. A great welcome from the guy at reception who directed us to the roof - once we got to the roof we were very underwhelmed the staff who seemed less than interested in serving us . This place should be buzzing with such an awesome loc… more
