We had the most amazing time in Tabin! You get really close to the rainforest and we experienced so much: orangutangs and leeches included!! Our guide, Donnie, was very knowledgeable and had a real skill to spot the animals in the rainforest. The food at the reserve was plentiful and of high quality. The chefs also cater for food allergies and limitations. On departure day, we had to leave before breakfast was being served and really appreciated the takeaway breakfast bags we were given.

I spent a wonderful 3 nights at Tabin. It was my third trip to Borneo, but my first to Tabin. I had hoped to see Gibbons, Orangutans, Proboscis Monkeys and Otters. I saw and heard seven Primates clearly and with time to really observe them - Orangutans, Gibbons, Macques (short tailed 'gangsters' and the cute long tailed ones), beautiful Silver Leaf Monkeys and the Sabah Grey Monkey. The Water Moniters swimming past my River Cottage were elegant and gorgeous swimmers, and the antics of the Macques were hilarious (especially when dogs came to the river below the monkeys). I didn't see Otters because it was the wrong time of the year, But I was absolutely rapt in what I did see. The Sun Bear crossing the road in front of our vehicle was an absolute unexpected bonus. Leopard cats and Common Civets and night birds as well. I went for the wildlife, and it was beyond what I hoped for :) The drive in is rough, fine, so what! If you think that is bad don't go to see the fantastic wildlife in Madagasar! (actually, DO!) The "resort" - my river cottage #1 was absolutely lovely. The wildlife and views from the balcony were very engaging. The air-con worked well, the shower and bathroom were fine, the bed was really really comfortable, the food was very nice and varied. What is to there criticize in a remote part of the rainforest? I loved every minute of it!

“Wonderful location and fantastic experience”

The location is absolutely perfect, there are macaques, water monitors, butterflies and hornbills around almost constantly. There is plenty to do, the food was good and the guides and cafe staff were friendly, helpful and skilled. The drive in is bumpy, but not ridiculously so and I have experienced a lot worse in Africa. Due to the humidity we preferred the drives over the walking, but definitely do some of the walks. A free foot soak and mud mask was also included in our itinerary, not really our thing, but we both did do the foot soak which was surprisingly fun. Make sure you ask for your full itinerary when you arrive and be aware that they are other options which you can pay for, so ask for these too as you will need to book them ahead of time. We were in Hill Lodge 3. Be aware that Hill Lodges 4 to 10 are quite a long way up a steep hill and we were glad we did not have to walk that far all the time. The only negative is that the administration is poor. Our air-con broke, so I reported it to reception, who said they would get it fixed whilst we were out on a walk. When we came back it was still broken and reception had closed. Thankfully the kind staff in the cafe helped us out and got housekeeping to attend within 10 mins.
