“Very eccentric ”

Very nice effort to replicate a historical place. I think they got confused between a hacienda and a European palace. The hotel is nice and the restaurante and bar area are nice as well. A little bit far away 1 1/2 hour drive from Mexico City. Overall a nice place to get away for the weekend.

I had not head about the Real Hacienda Santo Tomas until I was recently pointed by a friend who had in turn heard about it while organizing her wedding in the area. I was really surprised to find such a large and upscale property in the middle of a very rural and underdeveloped part of Mexico. This hotel is not your typical hacienda in that it was not build several centuries ago, but rather, it is a relatively new construction, which one can tell, was built with the main purpose of entertaining its guests. The quality of the building, its amenities and food are something you certainly do not expect anywhere near this part of the country. I begin by saying that the entrance is impossible to miss, with a very large set of arches that welcome you to a cobblestone road that leads up the hill to the main hotel building. Once there, the doorman is kind and will help with taking care of your bags and will also park your car a few feet away. The hotel lobby is VERY large, with triple height ceilings. The decor is somewhat overdone, very Las-Vegas like, with lions, gold and mirrors everywhere (you get the picture). The staff is very courteous and welcoming. The next biggest surprise was the excellent quality and SIZE of the rooms, simply enormous. Talk about a good deal! All bespoke furniture and fantastic beds. The hotel boasts a central interior garden, a restaurant with fantastic views of the valley, a heated pool, a very nice spa, tennis courts, soccer field, climbing wall, line hanging facilities, horse quarters, cow farm, mini-golf, mountain bike trails, chapel, etc. Quite surprising honestly. There may be very few reasons to go to this place of the country, except to stay in this hotel, however, those wishing to spend a quite weekend close to Mexico City (1.5 hrs. by car), it is certainly worth the trip and the stay.

This hotel is about 2 hours away from DF and it is a good place to just get away from it all. There is really nothing around the area to do . The hotel itself is very interesting with French style decorations and there are many photo-worthy areas. It is in fact a good venue for weddings and the like. They have more than 50 rooms spread around 2 floors and arranged over looking a well manicured courtyard. The rooms are big and comfortable. They also have a big ballroom area on one end and a bar and restaurant on the other. They were offer spa services which I was unfortunately not able to try because I was there for meetings. The restaurant serves ok food but with limited menu . They serve fresh milk and cheese made from inside the hacienda which you can also buy to take home with you.
