Hotel is in a great location, next to the gondola and with direct access to the train and bus stations. The onsite restaurant was arguably the best option in town, The Haik bar. Not much else going on in Voss, which even in school holidays was very quiet. Well equipped rooms, shower was below average with poor pressure and spray, and the beds were ok, but otherwise all good. Breakfast buffet was really good, lots of choice both hot and cold. The staff were great throughout our stay. Good for the younger ones, with a switch in reception and shuffleboard to in the bar. A good stay overall

“Scandinavian basic hotel.”

Really geared towards skiers, and families. Amenities in the room were absolutely basic. Staffing in the bar in the afternoon was a problem

“Scandic Voss, go for the snow and stay for the dinner!”

I really wanted to write this review for the Scandic in Voss. I travelled with my husband for a 5 night ski break at the end of March and we stayed half-board in the hotel. The Scandic is literally on the platform for the railway, so if dragging large suitcases and ski gear, it is really convenient. Helpfully the main Voss gondola is right next door to the hotel, so there is no tramping for miles in ski boots, which is always a win for me. Yes, the hotel is part of a chain but everyone on reception was helpful and friendly. The room was cosy and a bit warm but then so is every ski chalet I have ever stayed in. A slight down side is that there wasn't a wardrobe in our room, so I was living out of the suitcase, which I dislike when I have wet ski clothing. There are no tea / coffee making facilities in the room, but reception managed to come up with a kettle for me, we bought tea bags and we stored milk from breakfast in the mini fridge (brits love their tea). Breakfast was good, some European countries struggle with the concept of a full English but there was fresh fruit, vitamin shots, beautiful Norwegian bread, yogurts, porridge and hot options. Plenty for everyone. The real reason for this review though is to talk about the 3 course dinner (chef's choice), so we didn't chose off any menus. Oh my lord, the food was fantastic! It was beautifully cooked and presented, it was probably some of the best quality food I have eaten for a long time. If you get the chance, don't have the burger (everyone does), have the Norwegian menu!! Finally, I realise I have gone on - I went two weeks before Easter and the slopes were well groomed and quiet, by the end of our stay a lot of families arrived and the vibe felt a bit different, the ski area is compact so it got very busy (not what I prefer). Finally, finally - the hotel does have ski lockers but they are an extra cost and you pay at reception. l would recommend the hotel without reservation, but stay for the dinner!!

It is a little unsusual to stay in a 'chain' hotel on a ski holiday but all-round it was a good experience. The very best bit of this modern, large hotel is its location. It's right on the railway platform, the bus station is outside and a just a few steps from the ski locker room to the access gondola. Very little walking required. The next best bit was breakfast; I have never been disappointed in a Scandic and this was up to the usual immaculate standard - so much choice of quality options. We dined in the hotel restaurant on two evenings. Nice enough but a fairly limited menu. Our room was modern, clean and well-equipped although the fridge didn't work. Never mind, the draft from an ill-fitting window was enough, during a particularly cold spell, to keep our milk and soft drinks cold. All in all, we would definitely return if skiing in Voss in future.
