“Fabulous Stay”

A fabulous stay! I am a solo traveler and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. The hotel is pristine. The breakfast is divine. The dinners are fresh and fantastic! The location is gorgeous, private, relaxing. I was very sad to leave.

This was our favorite place after a 3-week trip into the scan avian countries. The charm, history and location make this a memorable stay. The food shined along with the staff. Limited menu however outstanding flavor and presentation. We were able to hike above the inn and walk to the ferry for a trip to Vik. During our stay we found out that most of the family works at the inn and we came to the conclusion that they care more and work harder to please their guests.

“Thin walls, lack of public spaces but great views and food”

This hotel is in a fantastic location with a wonderful view of the fjord. The problem is that the walls are paper thin. We were kept up all night by our neighbor who must have had the flu since he was coughing up a storm all night. Because of that I would try to reserve a cabin so that you have some privacy and some relaxing space. They have a few public spaces that you can relax and have a tea or wine and read or enjoy the view. The problem was they were all locked when we tried to use them. When we asked they told us we could only use them if we purchased beverages from the hotel which we were happy to do. The included breakfast was excellent! Lots of cheese, fresh jams, yogurts and granola and eggs made to order. We ate 2 dinners there as well which were delicious. I chose the fresh fish each meal.

“Our most disappointing accommodation touring Norway”

We stayed here for 2 nights, booked by Trailfinders. We were given a room in an outside building. On first impressions, it was quite a nice room with a kitchen and balcony with spectacular views but the place needs to be run infinitely better. We stayed here for 2 nights, booked by Trailfinders. We were given a room in an outside building. On first impressions, it was quite a nice room with a kitchen and balcony with spectacular views but the place needs to be run infinitely better. What is the point in having a kitchen with a dishwasher with no dishwasher tablets (who takes them on holiday?) or a fridge that was off. It worked fine once on, as did the cooker, but how can you prepare and cook food with only one extremely large knife and a grater? Nothing to stir with when using in a pan. A hatch potch of crockery and glasses - no tumblers - just plastic bathroom glasses! Only very small bowls - and we had soup seeing the difficulty in doing much else. Loose tea in a tea caddy but nothing in the coffee one. No salt and pepper or any other items either, including milk, although - on asking, we were given a small jug for tea. No shampoo/conditioner in the shower either. The room was cold on arrival although we were booked. Under the circumstances the heater and fridge shouid gave been put on for our arrival. We got there pretty late after a very long drive. They did 'allow' us to eat in the restaurant that first night but it was very expensive, which is why we decided to utilise the kitchen on our second night. We like our vegetables al dente but they were almost raw! Breakfast was the most small we had in 3 weeks in Norway. Very limited. You could order eggs, but the fried were cooked at very high temperatures and not good at all. All brown underneath. We have had great bread everywhere else in Norway but this was also disappointing. What made me cross though was that the only 'sweet' thing available were small croissants, but on the second day, they had run out when we arrived at 9.30. Considering they have a small number of guests, I don't know why they can't kerp track if things better. I also had to remind them that the yoghurt had run out (but this was then replaced). So, all in all, they need to smarten up their act - talking of which, they certainly need to smarten their garden area, too. It is full of weeds, such a shame as it's such a pretty environment but then, given the lack of attention to detail elsewhere, perhaps we shouldn't be surprised? PS If you DO stay here and have a room in this building be prepared to have your floors shake and room reverberate unless those in the room next door are quiet as church mice!
