Charming, comfortable, friendly, centrally located—the perfect little non-chain hotel. Free laundry room for guest use, sociable living room to meet new people over free hot chocolate, coffee, or tea. Kitchen available for guest use. No TV (hurrah!). WC and shower down the hall.

“Great cozy hotel”

Arnt and Anette were great hosts. Free coffee, hot chocolate and tea. No elevator/lift but they helped us with our luggages up the stairs. We also booked the Northern Lights Tour with them and we came home happy having seen a glimpse of Aurora Borealis. So worth it!

We didn’t stay at the Ami Hotel, but booked an intimate trip for 5, to hunt for the Aurora. Pick up and drop off either outside the Ami Hotel. On arrival at the hotel we were given warm clothing and boots. Our driver and guide, Sarah, was great, originally from Wales, she was very knowledgeable and told us interesting tales of Norwegian folklore, talked about the different locations that she’d travelled to for great views of the ‘lights’. She was very friendly, and brought fold up chairs to have hot drinks, sausages to toast around a firepit and also doughnuts. Sarah drove us to a few spots and saw the wonder of the ‘Northern Lights’. She also took photos of our group which were great. I would definitely recommend this tour.

We booked here using booking.com. we traveled from the UK and arrived at aprx 9.30pm. Check in was easy. We were sent a front door code and room door code. We booked here using booking.com. we traveled from the UK and arrived at aprx 9.30pm. Check in was easy. We were sent a front door code and room door code. No one on the front desk so we located our own room and sorted ourself. This worked well for us as I worry about late check in. Our room has two singles pushed together and a bunk bed. Bunk bed safety rain is very low. So we moved mattress on to the floor each night. Worked for us. The room included a very small bathroom with a shower and shared space for the toilet and sink. Hand soap provided and towels but no other toiletries. These can be picked up easily in local shops if needed. Fridge freezer and hairdryer also in room. The linen was fresh. The towels can be changed daily and your bin emptied. Our room was not made up each day. Downstairs is a shared kitchen with a couple of ovens. There is pans, utensils, plates etc for cooking. I made pasta, noodles and cheese sandwiches. There are shared sinks and dining space. There is a cupbaord where people leave odd bits ie pasta, bread. Coffee and hot chocolate are free from the machine at anytime. There is a vending machine with a few snacks and drinks in. Free WiFi which was fairly consistent. Additionally, there is a few washing machines and dishwasher in the back. This was helpful. I purchased washing liquid but found power and conditioner had been left. It was free to use. We found this to be a brilliant location. We got a taxi from the airport using taxifix app. It arrived in mins and cost 360nok. The rest of the time we walked. You can use a bus app svipper. We walked to town shops, museums and grocery stores all within 10 mins. We visited the gate way to the arctic. This is a great photo spot and free. You may need to queue for your photo at peak times. The polaria which is an aquarium with its best feature being the seals, troll museum, cable cars using the shuttle and reindeer experience. We were due to whale watch but due to poor weather this was cancelled. I booked moat things either directly on their website or using getmyguide. You can book a northen lights tour with the hotel. They are called arctic circle. We borrowed a sledge left in the hotel for sledging just outside the hotel. There is a fantastic slope and childrens play area. We searched the shops for a sledge with no success. Big sports stores such as xxl sports are meant to sell them but this is on the otherside of town. I'd suggest taking an inflatable snow ring with you as this worked the best on the dusty snow. There are some steps to take you down towards the main shops/ streets. These were covered over with snow. Great fun for us but not for someone with restricted mobility or a push chair. We were lucky to have lots of snow. This did mean the weather affected our view on the cable cars, a trip being cancelled and despite high percentages no view of the northern lights. This is a self service hotel. There is no breakfast option. You will need to wash up after yourself. This was fine with us and we were happy with our holiday as we like to come and go when we are ready. Check out was 12. There is a sofa area, toilet and shower on the top floor. This was helpful as we checked out at 12, visited town then needed to wait around for a night flight. We stored our luggage in the back room. I asked the owner for a new door code in the morning as my original code stopped working at check out. We then sat upstairs with biscuits and coffees till it was time to go. The owner was friendly and helpful. Beautiful view of the city.
