Perfect location to stay when visiting the missions. Large room with quiet air con & comfy beds. Good bathroom & the first shower taps in Paraguay that I found straight forward to use. Rooms in blocks motel style. A nice swimming pool for a pleasant hour or so after a lot of driving, though maybe apply the insect repellent late afternoon An interesting bar display of dozens of yerba matte brands (worth checking out the small nearby yerba mate display museum near the town sign for Bella Vista where you might pick up some free samples). Very good evening buffet parilla restaurant with a 7.30 start gives you the right amount of time to eat before heading back to the evening light show at the Trinidad Mission (Friday through Sunday). Friendly bar & restaurant staff all followed through with a good breakfast buffet Wifi a bit hit & miss in the room so worth getting a drink in the bar before online noodling

Bella Vista is a decent town in the heart of an intensive agricultural area. It is also within easy driving distance of Paraguay’s only major tourist sites, the Jesuit missions. But tourists are thin on the ground here, so the Papillon’s real trade is business people. Even so, the hotel seemed virtually empty for our two night stay. The public areas and restaurants have a slightly Germanic vibe - not surprising given the area’s history - and are designed like a motel. Rooms are in two-storey blocks surrounding the spacious garden and pool area. Everything seemed well-maintained. There are lots of birds and big lizards. Our room’s spaciousness was compromised by a second bed which meant the main double bed was misplaced with one side directly below a wall light and with a power socket directly behind the pillows, a rather dangerous thing I thought. The bathroom was rather poor, with a bad layout and weak shower. Everything was very clean, though. Dinners were from a ridiculously big menu, which did include a simply historic apfelstrudel. Main courses like steaks and chicken were smothered in gloopy sauces. Portions were huge. The food was tasty if crude. Lots of nice wines at giveaway prices. Breakfasts were from a huge buffet - how they justified this with so few guests remained a mystery. This was a convenient and undeniably place to stay on our road trip down from Asuncion and over to Iguazu in Argentina.

“Lovely stay, nice gardens, close to Yerba Mate factory”

What a lovely property! It has a distinct German character which is typical for this area of Paraguay where many German people have settled over the last century. What a lovely property! It has a distinct German character which is typical for this area of Paraguay where many German people have settled over the last century. German is still spoken, plus Spanish and some English. The room was comfortable but not luxurious. Grounds with gardens are beautiful. Food was excellent. Restaurant/bar area very attractive. It is a surprisingly large hotel so has a breakfast buffet, which was great. We would have loved to have stayed longer but just had an overnight. This is the Yerba mate capital of Paraguay, which produces most of the world's Yerba mate. There's a statue about this in town, and it is possible to visit a factory nearby for a tour.

Stayed one night. Very good location, perfect for visiting the missions. Well maintained grounds. Quiet, spacious, clean room. Comfortable bed and pillows. Well lit desk area. Well located power sockets. Heat worked well, although it took a while to warm the room. Bathroom with everything in working order. Good water pressure in the shower. The bathroom was cold because the window didn't close all the way (it was 5°C outside during the night). Breakfast buffet with good selection. Average wifi. Plenty of parking. The menu of the hotel's restaurant is not vegetarian friendly, but the staff is quite accommodating.
