*Warning to guests currently at hotel - there is a sickness bug spreading around* We have just returned from The Coconut Bay, which was our third stay at the resort - this time returning with friends. There were 8 of us in total, 4 adults and 4 children (14, 14, 11 & 10). We all had a really great time; loved the food, the pools, the beach and the beach bar. The rooms are a little dated (and exactly the same as when we first stayed 13 years ago) but still comfortable and you don’t spend much time in the room on holiday anyway! Our youngest visited the kids club and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, there seems to be a sickness bug spreading around the hotel.. 3 of us got it two days before we left, 1 since we returned home. We discovered that the room next to us also had it and someone else had vomited in the pool (which was left floating around and not cleared up). I’ve just seen someone else leave a review saying that they also had it, leading me to write this review to make others / The Manager aware. We did inform the reception staff that we had a sickness bug but there didn’t seem to be any form of infection control / deep clean so I imagine it will be spreading around quite rapidly…

Truly an amazing experience! The island itself is captivating, making you never want to leave. The resort enhanced this wonderful experience even more. Disclaimer: This is an honest review. Cons: The resort could use some updates, particularly the rooms and bedding. However, with so many activities to enjoy, you hardly spend any time in your room. Pros: Very short ride from airport. 5 min max. The staff are welcoming, inviting, and always ready to serve you. THE SPA WAS EVERYTHING! Gabina’s hands are touched by an angel. Kim was incredibly friendly and exactly what you want when you first walk into a spa. I opted for the deluxe package, so I can't comment on the shorter services, but it was well worth it. The food and bar were good, but the service was exceptional. Christie, Chard, Tyron, Sage, and my absolute favorite, Edward, made my stay unforgettable. I can’t wait to return time and time again. THANK YOU!

By the standards of Caribbean resorts, I would rate this place as “respectable” or “pretty good.” There were some things we liked and some issues. Some of our dissatisfaction with it was the result of a miscommunication with our travel agent, who didn’t understand that we were after a 5-star experience (which we have had before), and I do not blame Coconut Bay for that. However, the flip side is that the “pretty good” experience does not justify the cost of the resort or the time spent getting to St. Lucia (we came from Canada). For the same money you can have a much better experience in the Mayan Riviera or upper-end Jamaican resorts. The resort is very close to the hotel, literally just a 10 minute drive, so that is convenient. The scenery in view of the resort is beautiful. In the advertising you get the sense that there are almost two separate resorts, an adults-only and a family place, but there is actually just an adults-only section, which consists of: two blocks of rooms; a fairly small pool along with a little wading pool, and a surrounding area of chairs, a few thatched double-chair loungers, and a row of “sun seeker” sets of chairs with umbrellas that you can rotate; the latter face the beach to which there is good access. The spa is in this area as well. All of this area is serviced by one bar which provides pretty good service, but no wait service to your chairs. It is not a very large area, and often it is crowded with drunk and loud Americans (sorry American friends, but it’s a thing) and nowhere nearby to go to escape the noise. The rest of the place is shared with the family side of the resort, including the main lobby/bar, two larger pools and virtually all of the restaurants. There is one restaurant set aside for adults for breakfast, but it is a la carte and the service is slow. My main message is that, if you are looking for an adults-only experience like you would get at an adults-only resort, this is not the place. Probably a great spot for a mixed group. The rooms are generally just in okay shape and really need refresh/renovation. The bathrooms are fairly rudimentary and the water pressure/temperature are unpredictable. Our first room had a partially broken shower head, chips and scuffs on mirrors and furniture, a bit of mold along the edges of the bathroom floor; the cleaning was not quite up to snuff—the mold, some gunk built up in less visible parts of the shower. This room was also close to the main reception, which meant that when groups were gathering to go off on excursions early in the morning, it was noisy and woke us up. Ask for a room farther away from reception. The second room we got was in somewhat better repair but bathroom/cleaning was the same. Housekeeping otherwise was fine and timely. The staff are a mixed bag. Some are lovely, friendly and want to go out of their way to help, while others are taciturn and uninterested. The food is generally okay, a bit hit or mess; the breakfast buffet in the main restaurant has a good variety, though not that much in the way of fresh fruit. Otherwise you get the odd good meal, but mostly just…fine. The “food during the day” place by the pool, “Flipflops”, serves burgers, fries, pizzas, soft drinks, nachos. None of it was brilliant. The Jerk Shack is open 12-5 and serves Caribbean-style food of various kinds, but what we got was dry and overcooked. We did have excellent service and food the one night we went to the Italian restaurant; server was Shantel who was friendly and attentive, and the chef, Gus, came out and had a great chat with us. One employee over in the adult section, Jade, made a special point of coming by through the week and was very nice. A big issue is that we both had is that we both got sick. On night 2 spouse had several hours of vomiting and diarrhea; on night 3 I had a few hours of the latter. On our last day there we ate breakfast and lunch before heading to the airport; spouse started to feel unwell before our plane left, and had a terrible time on the plane (I’ll just leave it to your imagination but it was pretty bad). I don’t invoke this lightly, but neither of us are prone to any gastro upset like this; I will leave it to you to draw the obvious inference. This really cut into the experience. Again, things are mostly pretty good, but it’s the little things that make it seem like less an experience than you’re paying for. The restaurants are a bit of a pain—you are required to book at a desk in the main lobby, days in advance. When we got there, we literally couldn’t get a dinner reservation for that day or the next. There’s a coffee/tea station in the lobby that is well-stocked—but three of the six times I went there, they had run out of coffee and we were standing around waiting for more to brew. No ATM at the hotel, you have to go to the airport or into town. Live entertainment at night is also just okay, mostly people dancing and singing to pre-recorded music with occasional neat things like fire-eaters. Wifi is spotty and not many power outlets in the rooms, nor are they very accessible. The beach areas are in good shape and the water is lovely to swim in; a bit of seaweed but that’s typical. There is a nice area called “Paradise Beach” that is about a ten-minute walk down the beach from the main resort. It’s a couple of areas of chairs and thatched-umbrella tables, serviced by a bar and a little burger place. Weirdly, to get there you have to pass through an area of beach where there are hawkers selling stuff; there are a couple of what are clearly resort-owned chairs and umbrellas there, but the guys are offering to make them comfortable for you, etc. It is typical at resorts for hawkers to be hovering just outside the resort area, but it’s weird here because the resort says they own all of the property, yet these guys are there on what is supposed to be resort-owned beach. So, on the whole, a “just okay” experience. It may seem like it’s small things I’m complaining about (other than getting sick, which was a big deal), but the whole point of a resort vacation is that the small things should be taken care of so that everything is relaxing. If you haven’t done a resort before this might be a pretty good one to start with. If you’re interested in St. Lucia specifically then there’s access to excursions, community trips, etc. But for the kind of money we spent, there are higher-end experiences to be had elsewhere.
