The first impresion is kind of cold, since the fascade needs some renovation. More as entering a hotel, feels like entering a museum. But the interior is nicely decorated and good mix of modern and old style. It seems that the interior was renovated and that some rooms are still unfinished (for example our room no. 23). But the people were really friendly, breakfast was diverse and food in the restaruant delicious. There is even a smaller lake in a short walking distance, where you can swim if you fancy lakes. I dont, but others told me that the water was clean and warm. Its a little bit expencive for what you get, since you really get only a nice, but simple room with breakfast, but prices are high in the whole area near Wörthersee. Special thanks to the team. On our last day we were running the Kärntenläuft, which started at 8.00, so they prepeared breakfast one hour earlier than usual only for our group of four people!

“Beautiful, rustic & peaceful”

We loved our stay at this picturesque castle (apart from a few minor things)! We were unaware that we were the only guests for the night we stayed over, but that didn't matter much. The owner was very forthcoming, kind and helpful. He made us feel very welcome. The rooms were big and roomy; they were also clean and the inside temperature was perfect. The surrounding area is peaceful and quiet and we enjoyed a lovely traditional dinner at a restuarant in Krumpendorf which the owner recommended. My husband and I would stay there again should we have another opportunity to travel to Austria, just because it was beautiful and the area was so rustic and peaceful. Now for the critisism: We traveled with an elderly lady- there is no elevator, so please, if you have heavy luggage or you are eldery people, take note that there are a lot of stairs to climb - and no one offered to help with our luggage at any time. Breakfast was a little dissapointing: only one croissant between 3 people, some breadrolls, ham, cheese, jam, honey, butter, coffee and orange juice - a little skimpy for the price. We couldn't connect to the wi-fi, but that was ok, one night without internet was survivable!

First negative surprise - no staff on site, no one in reception. Instead - phone number to be phoned, and keys in the safe. To my understanding, if someone is using the name "Hotel", than is obliged to keep staffed reception. Second negative surprise - both restaurant and bar were closed, despite high season. We were lucky to have late lunch elswere, otherwise would need to drive to the town. general impression - place is very atmospheric and quiet, but seems to be neglected. It obviously needs better manager. While booking - as we were travelling with two teenage daugters- I asked for 2 rooms by each other - I was given one on the 1st floor, one on the 2nd, although I found out that the room next to one allocated was unoccupied. Now positives: rooms were clean and very spacious, with fantastic view.

The hotel is situated just atop the little town of Moosburg. It is a rather small and plain castle but definitely charming. However it is also pretty worn down (on the outside). There is a farm with lots of animals which is lovely for kids. The rooms are big and somehow charming. However it was pretty cold during my visit (early May) and in some rooms the hot water was not working. If you want a special hotel experience this should be right for you, however don't expect a luxurious castle hotel.
