“You come here for the food”

The hotel and the rooms would benefit from an interior designer updating them a bit. However the rooms are very clean as are the comfortable beds. But you come here for the food. The hotel and the rooms would benefit from an interior designer updating them a bit. However the rooms are very clean as are the comfortable beds. But you come here for the food. We were impressed by the menue and the chef. We went for the 7 course wich was very reasonable priced. No way ne menue however. Also enjoyed going to the restaurant at the nearby camping site for drinks and a swim in lake Vänern. Breath taking views

“Lovely place, but simple breakfast”

We stayed one night at the mansion, after playing golf on one of the nearby courses. Our stay included avec before dinner, a 5-course dinner menu, overnight stay and breakfast. Nice staff, Evelina, who both checked us in and served at dinner. She had good knowledge of the food and drink that belonged to it. We chose a drink menu which also included beer, nice combinations of flavors! Lovely dinner! Our room was in a side building, small but nice, and with access to a terrace and the wonderful park. Good beds! It is breakfast that has the greatest potential for improvement at Krokstad. Small selection of breads, small selection of toppings, much was empty when we arrived. After a long battle with the juice machine, we finally got some freshly squeezed orange juice. But everything else was so good that it becomes a 4`s.

Stayed for two nights while working in Säffle. The rooms where simple, but clean and tidy, good Wifi coverage. No proper chair or sofa in the room, just a bed and a mirror really. The restaurant was the real gem, superb food and pleasant staff, described the dishes with entusiasm. The breakfast was really good aswell. Nice and quiet surroundings.

We had a nice room with views onto the park, very clean bathroom and comfortable bed. The 5 course evening meal was excellent, as mentioned in many reviews, an enthusiastic and talented chef. Breakfast was excellent too, so much to chose from all home made.. bread, scones, jams, peanut butter and fresh pressed orange juice, a great start to the day. However there are a few things that prevent giving it 5 stars, the pricing is not transparent as there is no wine list ( they only have 3 whites or 2 reds ) or a basic menu, we may have taken 7 courses if we knew what it cost and thus bought more wine. A glass costs sek 115 but I have no idea what the bottle may have cost. Other diners struggled to find a digestive to finish off their meal, the cellar must be limited. The dining room and main building is not as cosy as the bedrooms, maybe this is a work in progress, but we didn't like the modern art for sale on the walls, it detracted from the enjoyment. The waitress was very nice and considerate, but wearing a Vans tee shirt and a cheap carlsberg apron was not appropriate. Checking in, we rang the bell at 17,00 and were given the key by a young man.........That was it ! We had to ask where the room was, what time dinner and breakfast was being served. If we wanted to have a pre dinner drink where is the bar...'We don't have one!' Fortunately the rooms were more welcoming than him and the meal excellent. If they can address the professionalism of the staff and improve the dining room, main building I would go back.
