I just finished staying at the Mon Muang Hotel (also known as Zen Rooms via Grab) for a month as I was taking a TEFL course nearby. The hotel is situated off the main road, down a laneway behind the Mon Muang restaurant. The building is relatively new and it is in a nice quiet location. It is right beside McCormick Hospital. It is about a 20 minute walk to the touristy old town area. There are lots of restaurants and stores including hairstylists, barbers, laundry, coffee shops, pharmacies, 7-11's, Central Festival mall nearby for whatever you need. There are red buses driving by the front all the time and Grab is cheap to take most places too. When you stay there, you have the option of getting housekeeping or not and I chose the housekeeping, which is obviously a bit more money, but at the prices in Thailand it was still cheap for me and I got my room cleaned daily, fresh water, toiletries and bed made. Another student stayed in a room beside mine and she opted for the lower monthly price, she just had to supply her own stuff and take out her garbage, which was fine because she was on a fixed budget. My room was a king deluxe, which was on the 3rd floor as I requested it. Choice of elevator or stairs to get up and down. I was in the front building as there are two, the back one is for students going to school during the week. Nice large room with tiled floors, a comfortable king sized bed, fridge, nice long desk, flat screen tv, separate washroom and a balcony where one can hang their laundry to dry too. Air-conditioning works well and there is a huge double closet with mirrors, shelves and a hair dryer. Given I stayed for a month, I went out and bought a kettle so I could have morning coffee in my room. The staff were always excellent to deal with. Ying is the front reception manager and she was fantastic, always friendly and professional. At one point I needed something delivered from Bangkok and it was no issue for it to be delivered to the hotel to my attention. As soon as my package arrived, Ying notified me of its arrival. Another time, I was looking for an empty box for a school project and the next thing I knew, Ying had went out and found me one. The other staff, being the cleaning ladies and the grounds keeper were always very respectful and polite also. The pool was located at the front of the hotel and it was nice to take a fresh dip on the hot days. Also convenient for guests are the laundry machines on the ground floor in between the two buildings. The other bonus is the Mon Muang restaurant at the front, which is open early and stays open late, lots of food selections and very good prices. The hotel lobby does close each evening at 8:00 pm but if there is any need for assistance, the restaurant is open late and can help guests as they are the same owners and the hotel has a night security / groundskeeper on duty all night long until 6:00 am.
