We actually have not stayed. My husband had his operation cancelled due to other health issues. This was all last minute, but Garner Hotel were so kind and understanding. Would definitely recommend.

Nice refurbished hotel. Friendly helpful staff. Plenty of parking which is free. Easy location for M1 and reasonable breakfast. Bed comfy, shower powerful.

Have used this hotel many times when it was the IBIS. It has benefitted from a significant refurb in both the communal areas and the bedrooms. Room was very nicely refitted and redecorated. Breakfast was good value for money and lots of choice.

I recently stayed at Garner Chesterfield North as I had to visit family for a funeral. I previously stayed here many years ago, back when it was still Ibis. For our purposes it was pretty much perfect, all we needed was a private space, decent bed and a warm shower really. I will go into a bit more detail but with the caveat that one must first apply a cost filter to any criticism given. The location is just off junction 30 of the M1 at the Chesterfield borough of Barlborough. For me it's pretty much perfect as it's only a few miles away from my now dwindling family. On the same site and sharing a carpark is the Treble Bob, a Harvester, so should you wish to eat there's an option just a few steps away from the front door of the hotel. Just across the road is a McDonalds and a Wendy's if you wanted more food choices, so overall it's not a bad location for weary travellers. The hotel is tired, though. It really needs a complete do over. It's been redecorated in a hap-hazard manner and in a colour scheme I don't particularly care for. But, on the other side of the same coin it seems quite clean and housekeeping seems to be doing a good job. The staff at the hotel were just lovely, helpful and generally very pleasant. We couldn't have wished for better service and interactions had we been staying at the Savoy. The bed was comfortable and as I always seem to write about the pillows in my reviews I will mention that they were also good quality and comfortable. Bed linen was clean and the room well presented. Like much of the rest of the hotel, the bathroom was a bit weary looking but perfectly functional and the walk in shower was excellent. If there was a minor irritation to write about it would be that I found my room quite warm at night. I didn't wish to use the air conditioning as it was external noise that would have disturbed my sleep and it was positioned in such a way that it was blowing directly onto the bed, and I just know I would have woken up with a cold the next day. The windows were locked shut so getting any fresh air into the room was almost impossible. Thankfully, necessity is the mother of invention - or so they say, and being resourceful I found a non-destructive way to unlock the windows and bring in some much needed cool, night-time air. But, and here's the main crux, it was only £50 per night which is a bargain in anyone's book, I reckon. So for that price I can forgive the slightly odd colours and slap-dash paint job. If what you need is a warm bed to rest and a hot shower then there is no reason to not recommend this hotel, especially at only fifty quid a night. Plus it has watering hole in falling over distance and a few choices of where to eat. Add on the lovely people running the place and it is to be recommended for what it is.
