Lovely old hotel which was noisy due to the age of it, time of year, and on top of the high street, which was fine. But the SNORING coming from room adjoined to us was another level horrendous! If you don’t like thin walled rooms, this isn’t the place for you. Canterbury is a beautiful old world town and so Christmassy, for that, it is so worth a visit.

“Nice hotel, great location… can get noisy at night!”

We stayed at the Pilgrims Hotel for a weekend break through booking.com. The hotel was very pleasant and quite old and quirky with odd shaped rooms and slightly sloping floors in places, which I found very charming. The staff were very helpful, the facilities good and the continental breakfast was more than adequate with a more than reasonable selection of cereals, pastries, fruit, toast, coffee, tea, fruit juice and so on… easily enough to set you up for the day. We stayed in the double deluxe room, which was spacious and clean, had all we needed, a nice en suite and the bed was large and very comfortable, with nice bedding too. The downside for us was that, although the picture of the hotel online shows it situated in a nice quiet side street, our room was at the end of the hotel (second floor), overlooking the high street, which is very picturesque, but is really noisy at night - well into the small hours as alcohol cranked up the vocal volume to 11 for revellers walking by and discussing all manner of nonsense as they passed under our window! To add to this, a noisy street cleaning truck woke us up at 7am as it passed along the same route! I guess this highlights the fact that the location is a double-edged sword. You can’t get a better location than this place - right in the heart of the city and a very short walk from pretty much anywhere you would want to visit; however, noise is something you will probably have to contend with. Using JustPark.com, we parked at a local Sainsbury’s, which was a (very pleasant) 10 minute walk away along the river and cost us only £16.50 for just under 48 hours.

“Great location with a wonderful breakfast”

We stayed four nights here and it is a great central location and a short 10 minute walk from Canterbury west rail station. The breakfast each morning is great. We stayed four nights here and it is a great central location and a short 10 minute walk from Canterbury west rail station. The breakfast each morning is great. Would call it expanded continental breakfast. Many choices. We were in room #1. The shower/tub was very nice. No air conditioning, but fan is provided and was fine but was awfully noisy the last two days. Walls seemed thin and we asked about a quiet room when we checked in, but that did not happen. No fault of the hotel staff, but many rude noisy people late at night having to carry on in the hallway, while others, like us are trying to sleep.
