An excellent hotel and lovely food. Very comfortable. A welcome rest and stay after a days riding on horse back across the moor.

We had two very smart and well-designed rooms, a double and a twin, both with a fabulous view of the church, well-chosen furniture, and reassuring attention to detail everywhere. Sensible wi-fi password. desks TVs etc well tucked a way in recesses. We did not expect to be offered towelling robes. We stayed one one night, and we had dinner in the bar. Though the staff were very busy, we were attended to quickly, given a drink straight away (Yes!) The artichoke soup was piping hot, the lamb shoulder was delicious, as was the redcurrant magic, the crusty fresh bread, veg, gravy and two nice big very crisp cold Chardonnays and a jolly Malbec. They even found decaf which was not on the menu. We had a really agreeable evening, but were sadly too knackered to work our way through the dozens of malts on offer. Absolutely not expensive. @£35.00 ? And just as much attention was paid to breakfast. Just a marvellous place to stay in a fabulous small town on Dartmoor. The building is 300 years old, and the fire doors, smoke lobbies and the means-of-escape was a little visually intrusive where it met the original panelling and decorative joinery , where it absolutely isn't in the bedrooms, and is reflected in the very reasonable rates.

The Globe is a great place to stop off for a pint. Friendly staff and plenty of seating. Good selection of local beers and ciders.

We're a family of mum, dad, 15yr son and 20yr old son who were looking for a family room and The Globe Inn met our needs. We've been to Chagford before but this is the first time we've stayed overnight. The room was clean, spacious, well laid out and had plenty of space to sit and relax. The beds were comfortable with extra pillows, iron & board and floor standing fan. The room was quite hot so the fan was very welcome. The view from the window was of the local church and it was so lovely to hear the church bells ringing. The room was good value too. The bathroom is a little on the small side. There were plenty of towels and a shelf for our toiletries but the shower curtain is far too long so you have to literally stand on it and the overhead shower is quite low so you have to use the shower wand. This is the only space for privacy for changing so was quite challenging. My family went to dinner ahead of me so I could change in the room. Overall, the room was perfect and we'd happily stay again. However, it all went downhill over dinner. My family had already ordered a round of drinks and were sitting at the table so I went to the bar to order a glass of wine. I wanted a glass of rose so pointed to the rose section of the wine menu and asked for the pinot. I was delivered the wine at the table but it was white pinot so I returned it and asked for the rose. He said I asked for the pinot and I said yes I did, the rose. He seemed annoyed with me. There is Pinot Grigio, Pinot Blush and Pinot Noir on the wine menu so not my fault he assumed I wanted the Pinot Grigio. We then ordered our food. My boys were going to share the samosa dish but we said they didn't need to do that so ordered two but only one arrived. I ordered the halloumi teriyaki so was expecting halloumi fries or lovely diced halloumi but what arrived was a weird dish of tiny breaded cheese balls with a spicy chutney. I went to find the server to say they'd brought me the wrong dish but he said no, it was right. No 'I'll go and check with the chef', or 'sorry about that' but flat denial that it was the wrong dish. I later find an old menu in my room which has as a starter 'crispy brie with an orange/cranberry chutney' which is obviously what I was given. I mentioned this upon check-out and was told again that I was wrong. There were 3 times that the server came to our table when our glasses were empty and didn't ask if we wanted more drinks. We had to ask in the end which was a shame as we would have ordered more if asked. As mains, we had two fish and chips, a steak pie and a mushroom/spinach pie which were all lovely (although odd the server was wearing oven gloves to deliver all the plates when they were all cold). The best thing though was the hot fresh breakfast. We all had the full English and it was delicious. We understand the hospitality industry is really suffering at the moment and they're very busy with a small kitchen but it's the small things that matter and the customer service was just a bit odd. Unfortunately, we felt like an inconvenience and won't be returning.
