“Top notch”

I always stay here when I'm in Clevedon. Everybody is so friendly and helpful. I had s wonderful room and the breakfasts are amazing. Much cheaper than premier inn in Portishead and it's dog friendly. Top notch

First impressions excellent. Space in the car park, friendly and helpful receptionists, lifts that work, WiFi that works, pleasant room, cofortable bed, but most important for us - the hotel is dog friendly. Although dogs not allowed in the restaurant, they have suitable facilities in the Terrace Bar. Restaurant meals were fine (though my wife did not like the coffee). Breakfast standard English. A few negative points that should be tackled: Being dog friendly there should be prominent notices of poo-bins etc. No non-slip mat for the bath/shower. The internal decor could do with a revamp. So, high marks. We will stay here again.

Friendly, helpful & efficient.The staff were absolutely delightful. The room & en-suite were spotlessly clean. Lunch & evening meal in the terrace bar were excellent . Unfortunately we were very cold in the room. Perhaps if the heating had been put on earlier ? Lastly the breakfast was very disappointing . With hindsight we should have ordered poached eggs which would have been freshly cooked .

“Atmospheric location and lovely staff, but let down by some avoidable shortcuts”

Positives: • Location: A great, imposing setting on the estuary mouth that feels atmospheric, even from a slightly bleak perspective. Parking is easy thanks to the on-site car park. • Staff: Without exception, everyone we encountered was polite, friendly and helpful. • Rooms (family option): Family rooms are available, which worked well for us travelling with two children and needing a convenient stopover. • Restaurant (evening meal): Dinner was enjoyable. We chose the coconut crumbed haddock and the estuary views from the restaurant added to the experience. Negatives: • Grounds and access: Garden areas felt neglected. Steps leading down to fenced off grounds and scattered debris, including old wood and a broken wine bottle still present at 5pm, gave the impression that basic maintenance had been overlooked. • Room comfort: No real temperature control, so the room was either cold or overheated from the radiator, which disrupted sleep. The bed felt quite springy, the TV remote was dirty, and there was no smart TV or access to accessible usb ports for charging. Overall comfort felt a little lacking for the price point. • Restaurant consistency: The menu talks about pride aroubd high quality ingredients, yet a highly processed vanilla ice cream with colourings was served with the sticky toffee pudding, while a better quality option appeared to be reserved for separately purchased vanilla. Staff replaced it when mentioned, but it felt like unnecessary penny pinching. • Breakfast quality: This was the main disappointment. Most items felt poor quality or highly processed, from the pastries and sausages to the concentrate orange juice that tasted diluted. Only filtered coffee was available and it tasted very low quality like dirt from a cash ans carry. Would be nice if the owners or chef sat down and tried the breakfast offering to see if it matches their pride for the restaurant. Owners should recognise that breakfast is a key part of the stay. Matching it to the quality of the evening restaurant would likely encourage more return visits. Also, some additions like decent coffee (like a late or even quality filter grounds) would be useful.
