We spent 2 nights at the Fairfax Arms and found it met all our needs. It is situated in a pretty village in a beautiful part of Yorkshire. Our room was comfortable and clean. The restaurant had a good menu. The staff were helpful and friendly. We felt it was good value for money and enjoyed our stay.

“Gluten Free beer on tap, substanial GF menu.”

Previously reviewed as found it had gluten free beer on tap. As a result we booked a meal later in the week. Good menu, excellent daily specials board. Most of which could be amended to be gf. Previously reviewed as found it had gluten free beer on tap. As a result we booked a meal later in the week. Good menu, excellent daily specials board. Most of which could be amended to be gf. There was a deal on specials board fixed price with an extra offer for a glass of champagne, which we took. The food was sublime, as was the gf beer on tap (this is so rare) and we did 3 courses each. Staff are all friendly and efficient. There's the orangery and a room next to that plus the bar if you want to eat with your dog present. A Friday evening, full of visiting diners and locals of all ages. A typical country village of North Yorkshire. There's nothing to dislike here. We're back in September. We'll be dining here again then!

“Mixed experience”

Stayed for 2 nights for Wedding Anniversary. Food was very good, their pie really worth trying. Family room was excellent, room12 was disappointing, kitchen equipment noise all night. Stayed for 2 nights for Wedding Anniversary. Food was very good, their pie really worth trying. Family room was excellent, room12 was disappointing, kitchen equipment noise all night. Room was clean and well equipped. Bar area on Friday and Saturday early evening was packed but service was good. Good selection of beers and drinks. Nice restaurant with good service but a bit impersonal. Well situated location for areas attractions.

“Pleasant but some issues”

Stayed for two nights while touring N Yorks Moors. Reasonable value for money. Room comfortable but if you’re over 6ft tall (I am) your knees will touch the bathroom radiator in Room 12. Stayed for two nights while touring N Yorks Moors. Reasonable value for money. Room comfortable but if you’re over 6ft tall (I am) your knees will touch the bathroom radiator in Room 12. Lucky it wasn’t winter. As another recent guest mentioned, there is a real problem with locals sitting outside in the courtyard and talking loudly, effing and blinding constantly. One individual seemed to be unable to use a noun without prefixing it with ‘f***ing”, about three per sentence! The owners really need to tell him he’s bad for business. Breakfast was good (didn’t try dinner) but the dining room seats are awful! I have wide hips and after 20 minutes in the seat, they were so painful I had to get up and walk around – the frame of the chairs in the hip area is incredibly thinly padded. Fix the problems mentioned and I’d happily stay again.
