“Great location - but in need of some TLC”

I booked a twin room as I was having surgery the next day and my dad was driving me. We had booked this as a B&B but the breakfast part of that was inadequate. A croissant and some fruit did not fit what I had in mind when I was told "a continental breakfast is served in the room". But you live and learn. The hotel itself is very higgldy piggldy in its layout. We arrived via the back entrance, as while we had been told the car park was full, we had been assured there was plenty of parking nearby. There was. But car owners beware!!! - this is an extememly pot-holed aread and you could easily lose the odd tyre! We approached the back in pitch black only to be blinded when a member of the kitchen team open the door. One member of the ktichen team could clearly see us struggling with where to go and carrying suitcases but offered no assistance. We called round at the kitchen door, and while the gentlement spoke little English was extremely hgelpful. We were shown up the back stairs of a fire exit and eventually found Reception. When we got into our room, the beautifully solid and visually pleasing room doors were a facade of what lay beyond. Paint splashed onto the door moldings, a broken bathroom tap, a broken toilet flush, shower doors which did not fully close no matter how hard you tried. No bedside lights, no powerpoints of any use (either behind the TV or at the foot of the bed - very difficult to charge your phone and make a phone call), no bedside lights (so yes, I did stub my toe when I turned off the main light and tried to make my way back to the bed in complete darkness). The walls were paper thin but I alsways travel with ear plugs so this wasn't an issue for me. The decour and artwork was tasteful and the housekeeping staff had done an incredible job with what they had to work with. The linen was fresh and everywhere was clean and tidy. But when the wardrobe is rocking it's so unstable it's obvious that the owners would only need to spend just a little and this place could be stunning. I may have to look elsewhere for my next stay in Chingford when it comes to my next surgery.

I stayed here recently with my partner for his birthday. I dismissed the bad reviews when booking as it was in prime location and the pictures done it justice. But sadly the stay wasn't as nice as we planned, when turning up to the hotel I required an early check in with the owner confirming this we thought it would be easy and simple entering the hotel well we were wrong. My partner knocked several times, rang the number there was no response for at least 10mins a lady then came down and finally answered and came across very abrupt. We were pointed in the direction of the car park and then was shown to the room, I stated whilst booking we wanted a double bed we were presented with 2 singles. The room was very dated but had what you needed and the beds were comfy. The floor had lots of stains on and when we came home from our night out there was a cigarette but on our floor but nor me or my partner smoke so we were not impressed. The shower was awful and changed temperature and was not powerful. There was very rarely anyone at the main desk even when we checked out. We won't be returning to macys hotel.

We stayed here for one night whilst attending a nearby wedding. I was very dubious after reading some of the awful reviews but was quite pleasantly surprised. It’s far from being the best hotel or area that I’ve ever stayed in and the rooms could definitely do with updating but it was clean, it didn’t smell and the bed was comfortable. It was cheap and served a purpose. The lady on reception was very pleasant and helpful
