“50th Birthday stay”

Booked for a 50th. They went out of their way to make us welcome, especially the extra mile with knowing it was my wife's special birthday. Three course meal was excellent and very tasty. Breakfast was equally as nice, again looking after us so well

The Three Swans is a traditional coaching inn hotel, very centrally located in the pleasant market town of Market Harborough which offers a wide range of both local independent stores, national chains and interesting historic buildings. The Three Swans is a traditional coaching inn hotel, very centrally located in the pleasant market town of Market Harborough which offers a wide range of both local independent stores, national chains and interesting historic buildings. The hotel has a large car park which is free for residents. The well appointed bars and dining areas are welcoming and spacious with well trained staff who go out of their way to be helpful and efficient. In particular the restaurant staff Jasper, Justin, Mark B, Ewan, Viola, Rebecca and Izzie were all delightful. We must also mention how impressed we were with Neil Williams the General Manager who we chatted to in passing one morning and made us feel very welcome. We look forward to a return visit in the future.

“Confusingly bad”

We stayed at the Three Swans for a family birthday. It was a happy occasion; everyone together in a lovely hotel, so everyone was in a good mood. With everyone arriving from different countries and various parts of the UK, we all checked in separately, but all had same odd unwelcoming experience: hardly any greeting, no explanation of where things are at the hotel etc and "we have to have space for guests" when we asked if everyone could have breakfast at the same time the following day. We thought we were guests. At breakfast the following day, we all turned up for our allocated time slots, just to find the restaurant pretty empty. Despite hardly any other guests, the lady at the front desk was nowhere to be seen, so we eventually sat down since we had some elderly people with us. We got a snappy greeting when she turned up; she took our rooms numbers and didn't explain anything about the breakfast. We sat back down and waited, hoping there was a la carte breakfast and that she'd bring us menus. After some more waiting, we asked her if there were menus and she said "yes" and popped some on the table - again, no introduction. By the time she came back, we were so fed up, we'd helped ourselves to the buffet (which she also hadn't explained - not that it needs to, we all know how it works, but it is a common practise in hotels to do so). At several points during the breakfast, we had to randomly hand around because there were no clean plates and bowls and there was no staff to be seen, so we could ask for some. The waitress also said there was only cafetière coffee or a pot of tea. However, we later discovered that the bar staff downstairs make a perfectly nice cappuccino - we would not have minded going downstairs to get our own - or paid for them if she would have fetched them. The only staff member we interacted with who seemed to be interested in guests and doing a good job was the front of house/manager, Neil. The three stars are because of him.
