We booked into The Crossways as we were visiting family in the area. Booking direct does seem to give the best price available. Prices are incl. of breakfast and we thought reasonable and value for money. I think the dog charges are high at £25 for first night and £15/night after so £70 for us. The roads approaching the hotel are tight in places but nothing unusual for this part of the country, just take your time and it's fine. Greeted at reception with lovely news of a room upgrade to a huge 4 poster room which was very much appreciated especially as we were there for a few days. The bed was comfy (a little firm for us but fine). Nice bedding, plenty pillows. The bathroom had a large walk in rain shower and a large jacuzzi bath and lovely fluffy towels. The hotel leave a dog bed, plastic bowl, some treats & a cover for furniture. The reception area is in the bar area as is comfy seating and tables for meals (dog friendly area) and there is a lovely conservatory area for people without dogs. All areas of the hotel are clean and pleasant. There is a roof bar and salon/treatment area but we didnt use these. Food choice at breakfast was plentiful, hot or continental or both. Machines for hot water and coffee. Evening menu choices looked good as they had specials on each day but due to visiting family we didn't get a chance to sample this. Every morning our dog Daisy was greeted with a sausage cut up and a bowl of water. All of the staff we met and spoke to were polite, helpful, chatty and a credit to the hotel. Special mention to Max, what a lovely lad. He is planning some travels after his degree but if the hotel could convince him to come back he would be a huge asset. Overall we had a great stay and would absolutely recommend it and would stay again. Thank you.

Great location and well renovated with a large car park (electric car charging points should you need) We were greeted by a lovely receptionist and we had a very spacious four poster room. The room had a door to the outside (so I imagine it is wheelchair accessible from the outside), Large spa bath tub and a walk in rain shower. It was opposite the restaurant extension which should you like privacy means curtains need to be shut. The room was well decorated aside from a wardrobe that looked very out of place. It was also well heated. Unfortunately there were quite a large amount of cobwebs (covered in dust) and dust down the posts of the bed. The spa tub had quite a build up of limescale as we discovered turning it on resulting in black particles in the water and the sink surround was quite stained. We had dinner both nights in the restaurant to save driving the 3 miles in to Wells as we wanted a relaxing weekend. The food was adequate. Breakfast was included and the continental buffet choice was decent for a hotel of that size, the cooked options are made fresh to order. I had a full English, which was reasonable quality and the following morning the porridge which was amazing. Unfortunately on the Saturday evening there was a lot of noise from the function happening in the hotel and loud screaming. This went on late and I do understand the needs of businesses to make money, however there are things that can be done to negate the annoyance this causes to guests. At around 4.15am the fire alarm went off, so we all evacuated to find there are no staff on site during the night. Thankfully there was not a fire however this just highlighted a poor consideration for guest safety. One of the guests was able to silence the alarm and contact a number written on the wall by the reception, however if there were a fire nobody would be able to do that, nobody would know if guests were still inside and that just isn’t good enough. We were back in the hotel around 5am and managed to get to sleep some time after 6, with checkout being 10am. It would have been nice to have received an apology, and perhaps a later checkout. Overall I would say we have stayed in far better 3 star accommodation. Left feeling disappointed.
