A lovely tranquil experience within easy reach of Perranporth but avoiding the noise and hassle. We received a friendly polite welcome and all the information we needed from a young lady who carried our bag upstairs to help us. The room was immaculate and classically furnished in good quality- a refreshing change from the purely functional chipboard found in hotel chains. Our bathroom was spotlessly clean and tasteful with high quality fittings - the shower was very powerful. Breakfasts were perfectly cooked for each guest individually from quality ingredients - again a nice change from the pre-heated buffets in the chains - here it is quality first. As a family- run hotel I appreciated the individuality - I note some negative reviewers seem to expect a replica of a hotel chain - well that isn’t what we came here for. I noted a minor issue in a public area and brought it to the attention of a member of staff who listened attentively and am sure it is in progress - that is the sign of a good business. Well done! It is difficult to read some earlier negative reviews - although I appreciate that personal experiences can vary as do expectations - some of these seem quite vitriolic and more like personal attacks on staff which is hardly fair. I appreciate the “no pets” approach - again others may disagree but I do not want a bedroom previously occupied by a dog - a personal choice and I am glad the owners agree. The grounds are maintained in an eco friendly way that I liked - there is no need to mow the grass till it looks like painted earth and I prefer the natural look here - well done again. In summary we both enjoyed our stay here and would recommend for anyone who wants to get away from it all but still be in reach of nearby towns and beaches. We do not normally eat main meals at our hotels as we force ourselves to explore more widely so cannot comment on those.

“Hidden gem , beautiful setting. ”

Such a hidden gem. This traditional Georgian country house hotel exceeded all expectations. We were warmly welcomed on arrival, and our room upgraded. The room was spotlessly clean, traditionally furnished, and overlooked beautiful gardens and countryside. I required a gluten-free menu for breakfast as I'm coeliac. This was provided without any problem , which I really appreciated. We didn't eat any other meals in the hotel as we were visiting relatives. We found St Agnes to be a buzzing lively village nearby , with plenty of eateries / pubs. It would be lovely to see this hotel thrive and rise above the downturn in hospitality spreading across the country. Perhaps offering Sunday Roast lunches and opening up to non residents , including children and welcoming dogs , may be the answer. Cream teas in the delightful gardens would also be a crowd pleaser and sure to attract business if marketed well. We loved our brief three night stay in the tranquil setting and would certainly recommend if a calm, stress free break is required.

I stayed at The Rose in Vale while on a short break during the May bank holiday weekend, meeting a colleague who was visiting his father at St Ives. One of the main reasons I chose to stay here was the location & the fact it is pet & child free! If you want a good, quiet night sleep this hotel is ideal. I arrived too early to check in on the Friday, but walked to the local pub for a drink & bite to eat, when I returned my room was ready. I chose the cheapest room however it was pretty spacious & spotlessly clean, tea / coffee in the room plus some very tasty biscuits! On the Saturday I walked into Perranporth, there is a public footpath that runs adjacent to the hotel, it comes out in Perrancoombe, then it’s a quiet residential road the rest of the way. The same afternoon we walked to St Agnes, this was on a main road which is unpaved so not recommended. We used St Agnes & Daz cabs on the return journey. One other point poor phone signal (Vodafone) but excellent Wi-Fi (free) throughout the hotel so that wasn’t an issue. Like they say on their website, which is very informative, it's an ideal base for visiting Cornwall. I hope to return again soon with the wife & make use of their outdoor pool.
