Hampton Inn South Haven

I was on a trip to South Haven with a friend of mine over a weekend in March 2026, and we spent a Saturday night at this Hampton Inn. Hampton Inn is typically the default hotel brand I seek out on my travels, and so it was a no-brainer that I would choose this Hampton for our South Haven trip. (I had booked the hotel several months before our trip.) Overall, our experience was so-so. The check-in process went okay, but the first problem was that the elevator was out of order. (When I had made the reservation, I requested a room on a high floor... but of course, I had no way of knowing that the elevator would be out of order at the very time we'd be staying here.) The staff member who checked us in at the front desk was helpful, and our room (#324) was clean and comfortable... so no issues there. The second problem we ran into was that the side door on the south end of the building (near the parking lot and on the end of the building where our room was located) did not work with the key card... so we had to avoid using that door to get in. The third problem we had was that the thermostat in the room didn't seem to work quite right. (We would try to adjust the temperature but the HVAC system in the room didn't respond well or quickly to those adjustments. For instance, we would try to turn the fan off, but the cold air from the fan would continue to come out of the register right next to the desk in the room.) We were happy that this hotel had a hot tub in its pool area, but it's kind of an old pool area and the jets in the hot tub weren't really working... so that was a disappointment. I did have the hotel breakfast in the morning, but that was also kind of a disappointment. In general, I'm not a fan of the scrambled eggs that a lot of hotels have these days... so I avoided those. I also avoided the yogurt because it was sitting out in room temperature. (Isn't yogurt supposed to be chilled?) I found enough to eat but I can't say I was that impressed. All in all, the hotel was okay and the problems we had weren't major... but they were annoying enough. The kinds of issues we experienced are the kind of issues that I would expect from other hotel brands - not Hilton properties. If I have a need again in the future for overnight lodging in South Haven, I might pick a different hotel next time. Was it a bad hotel? No... it was just okay and doesn't deserve any higher of a rating than 3 out of 5 stars. Just disappointing for being a Hilton property.
