Iceland, with its Viking past, is legend and reality. In this country, where the sky looks like a work of art, impressive geology becomes an everyday sight and the cold is fought in pools of volcanic water. Its capital, Reykjavik, has very interesting culture to offer. From its music festival, Sónar, in one of the most exclusive concert halls in Europe, that boasts imposing architecture, a harbour location and which stands out at night with its purple lighting, to the city's unusual penis museum. But Iceland is impressive especially for its imposing nature, with landscapes that are unique in the world: turquoise lagoons dotted with icebergs, geysers spitting columns of boiling water, volcanoes and impossible landscapes caused by earthquakes, with cracks that seem to show the interior of the Earth, black beaches and endless waterfalls... And, among all this, the adventure of hunting northern lights, that phenomenon of multi-coloured lights across a dark sky. A country of 100,000 square kilometres so full of things to see that you won't get around it all, where the traditional cuisine will also impact you: head of cooked lamb, dried and marinated fish, mashed turnip, reindeer meat and the especially famous hakarl. - Due to the sheer distance between hotels in Iceland, we recommend adapting the itinerary of this road trip according to the hotel selected for your overnight stay.
- Driving in Iceland is straightforward, but please note that many roads are gravel, especially secondary and inland roads. Snow can make driving difficult in some months of the year. This is why we recommend renting a 4x4 vehicle. Many roads are closed in winter because of the snow, but that's when you can visit the ice caves. Always pay attention to speed limit signs, as there are strict fines for speeding. Remember that you have to keep your lights on whenever you're driving. We recommend the use of GPS and/or a good Internet connection due to the poor quality and/or lack of signal.
- Triple rooms in Europe are generally rooms with twin beds or a double, in which a folding bed is installed to accommodate the third person. Due to the inconvenience this causes, we advise against using this option as far the possible.
- The proposed excursions and tours for each day are purely suggestions, as you can tailor the trip to suit your times, tastes and needs.
- A credit card is considered a guarantee, so sometimes you will need one for check-in at hotels.
- Hotels usually have cots available. Otherwise, babies will have to share a bed with an adult.
