“A lot going for it but its not for me”

I had a superior seaview room, which doesnt have a view matching the advert. Some of those rooms have a clear view of the sea and some have a view of the back of a restaurant then the sea around it - I was about in the middle. These are the recently renovated rooms, and are decorated really well, spacious with a quirky indoor/outdoor shower and comfy beds. I think other rooms are still to be updated. These rooms are in the middle of the complex. The place is really chill and quiet, in a good relaxing way! No children which was a massive bonus. The food is amazing, not a huge diversity at mealtimes but always had something for me (pescetarian) and was really tasty. The service was good, Kevin and Gerald really went beyond the call of duty to help me with a couple of things. A big plus of this place is that they offer complimentary watersports like use of snorkelling equipment, kayaks, paddle boards and a light water craft. Plus well priced shuttles to St Johns and Shirley Heights. There is easy access to 4 beaches; royal palm is a little rocky, honeymoon cove is a bit small, Eden is a nudist beach (only one in Antigua and with literally pigs on it) and seagrapes is the main beach. If you havent seen other beaches in Antigua seagrapes is stunning. It doesnt have white powdery sand like other beaches, but its gorgeous for sure. I liked the lush green hills in the background. The hotel attracts a lot of Brits. All the beaches in Antigua are public but because of the location of this hotel, theres hardly any thoroughfare on the beaches. And I doubt youd see much change in busyness on cruise embarkation days. There were plenty of loungers but people still woke up silly early to reserve them. Some loungers were on a grassy knoll above the sand, which wasnt for me. I overall had a relaxing stay but wouldnt return.

We booked Hawksbill for our 10 day honeymoon to Antigua in March/April 2026. The setting of the hotel/grounds and beach area is stunning you can’t fault it. The sea is beautiful & it has a rustic and authentic Caribbean vibe which we wanted. Upon closer examination once you’re settled in you notice the flaws. The entrance and entry road needs work it looks rundown which isn’t a good first impression on your honeymoon. Reception office looks basic and tired. Metal cabinet behind the receptionist was visibly rusting. Buffet was great we enjoyed each meal and ate alot! Service for drinks was very slow and most staff were rude and made no conversation. Most bar staff treated you like you were an inconvenience when ordering drinks - didn’t feel like we got our moneys worth as they took so long to come if they even arrived at the table at all. We would often go to the bar outselves to make sure we got our drinks. Canned beer on offer was awful. Long bay on draft was nicer but not great. No area to sit out after dinner. The bar area could do with some seats. You feel as though you are being rushed from your table to make room for others. We had a lot of early nights in bed and games of cards. PD grill & seagrapes restaurant - awful. Cancelled our second reservation as it wasn’t worth returning and there’s a massive sur change on 75% of the menu which is ridiculous considering how basic it looked. Went to the buffet after to fill up. Staff in towel/water sports hut were rude & unhelpful. We stayed in a Royal Palm Beachfront Bungalow King - Our room was nice but very basic - air con was good. Hair dryer wasn’t great & attached to the wall. Mini fridge was ok. Sheets didn’t get changed the whole time we were there. Empty glasses and plates left everywhere outside bungalows - not picked up by cleaning staff all day - covered in flies. We rented a car so went out a lot - people were lovely everywhere we went just a shame we didn’t have the same welcoming in the hotel. Spoke to a lot of other people who agreed with us that staff are rude - they were especially nice to returning guests but not new guests. Considering the poor treatment we luckily still had a lovely time and the island itself is beautiful! But would not recommend or return to Hawksbill.
