We just returned from our 7th stay at Mahogany Bay Resort & Beach Club, Curio Collection by Hilton, and somehow, each visit keeps getting better and better! What truly makes this place special is the incredible team. Alan is simply the best—so personable, warm, and welcoming. The fact that he remembers us each time and treats us like family means so much and keeps us coming back. Lovenia at the concierge desk was absolutely stellar—she took such great care of us and made our stay feel extra special. Jamelah at the front desk was wonderful as well, always smiling and greeting us by name each day, which made us feel right at home. We also had fantastic experiences with Carmen at the restaurants and Jessica from Rum and Bean—both delivered incredible service and added to the overall experience in such a positive way. A special thank you to Marcus, a great manager who clearly leads an excellent team. It shows in every interaction. We especially appreciated the thoughtful touches and special treats for Ken’s birthday celebration—they made the trip even more memorable. This resort truly feels like a home away from home. We already can’t wait to return and hope to see all of our friends there again soon!

Recently returned from celebrating my two year anniversary with my wife at this property. San Pedro is beautiful, but the resort was ultimately underwhelming and had some lasting, bizarre, interactions with staff that won't see our return. Starting with the good, the massive (MASSIVE) grounds were well maintained. I didn't spot a speck of trash and despite the ongoing construction everywhere, there was a real effort to spray down the drive paths so they wouldn't kick up dust/dirt. The room was beautiful (stayed in whatever the second floor thing is, the inside felt like a treehouse). Room stayed nice and cool and managed to not have any interactions with mosquitoes despite being there for 7 nights. The vibe around the pool was nice and the hotel food was surprisingly good when we were too tired or lazy to drive into the city. We found a couple of baby geckos in our room, which I thought was cool and simultaneously scared my wife. Guess where that belongs depends on your perspective. The bellboys were awesome and gave the down low on activities around San Pedro, which was really nice and appreciated (similar thumbs ups to Nigel at the front desk and Miguel at the restaurant; just nice dudes that seemed to care). The bad, as a Hilton Diamond member I expected a higher level of service. In the states I generally get constant outreach by hotel staff on how my stay is going, what they can do better, etc. I've read really favorable experiences from foreign countries from other Diamond members, and there really wasn't any of that. Even asking for an upgrade (which I never expect) at check-in I was greeted with the only upgrade they provide is from the basic cottage to the room we had already paid for. It made me roll my eyes, and would urge any Diamond members to just book the basic room and save yourself a bit of cash. Some other lowlights, in bite sized form: The resort is sprawling and.. empty. Most of the restaurants/shops are not affiliated with the hotel despite being on the grounds, so not able to charge basic things like meals to your room. There's no beach *at* the hotel - you have to take a 15 minute boat ride that departs once per hour. The only other "water" is an opaque green channel that runs to the ocean. The bizarre, our last full day at the resort. The day prior we had placed a "Please Make Up Room" placard in the slot outside of the room. The opposite side of this placard says "Do Not Disturb" (side note: if you don't put the Please Make Up Room placard out, they'll still make up the room, so the process is redundant and two things serve the same purpose). Our room wasn't serviced, so we called the front desk and asked for a set of towels, a water refresh, and some toilet paper. The housekeeping supervisor knocked a little while later, noticing the "Make Up Room" placard and asked if our room had been serviced. I replied with a simple "No", took the supplies, and didn't give it another thought. Mistakes happen, stuff gets missed, who cares. Returning to the last full day at the resort, we needed a replacement key for our room after returning from a day at the beach and finding our room key did not work when we returned. As we drove to the front office we were flagged down by our housekeeper (not the supervisor). I thought maybe she was saying bye or asking if we needed anything, but no, it was to browbeat my wife and I about how she didn't make a mistake yesterday and that we had our "Do Not Disturb" up, not "Please Make Up Room". It got really uncomfortable as she became incredibly accusatory, and even went as far as to accuse my wife and I of making up a story about needing our room made up. I'm assuming she was spoken to by the supervisor and takes a lot of pride in her work, but to confront a guest and accuse them of lying didn't sit right with me and ultimately pushed me to write a review. The bizarre didn't stop there though, as when we finally arrived at the front desk to get a new room key there was some machine issue that required the front desk agent to get the Assistant Manager (Salim? Sadim? an "S" name, male). He was able to get things sorted and asked if we would need any help in coordinating travel to the airport. Yup! Thanks! That was going to be my next ask. He proceeded to ask me when the flight left the next day. I didn't have my phone with me (locked out of our room), but recalled the check-in time of our flight to be 11:00-11:30. I explained this to him, and assumed given the location, frequency, etc, that there was some general awareness of when a flight would take off after that (there are two airlines that both have tight check-in windows before departure). He kept asking when the flight actually left, and I told him somewhere between 30 minutes to an hour after the check-in close. He then became incredibly dismissive, waving me off and asking me to return when I knew the departure time of my flight. In that moment I'm standing there like "what on Earth is going on and why is this dude behaving like this? I told you when check-in was, why does it matter when my flight leaves?" I refused the wave off, told him we wanted to be at the airport at 11:00, and it was resolved. I was left sitting there like what communication gap did I have that this needed to reach this point where I'm being dismissed and need to come over the top with my dad voice with this guy? Overall, if I could run it back, I'd 100% go to the SLH property that's a bit North on San Pedro. The value wasn't there for the service we received, especially during off-peak tourism time. The disparity in staff behavior (Miguel and Nigel were great! So were the boat boys Cameron and Ram) was super strange, and I hope you all can figure that out so other guests don't have the same dampening experience from your resort. Last bits, Rock's Golf Carts deliver and are like 50% of the cost of resort golf carts. Robin's kitchen is amazing and you should eat there every day.
