My wife and I spent 5 days at the Pousada Canto do Hibisco in early September. The weather was great (average 78F ) and it didn't rain. We drove to Angra, and the hotel set us up on a parking lot close to the Pier where the boat takes you to the Island. The hotel is located on the Gipoia Island, which is about 20 minutes away from Angra dos Reis. This is a place for relaxation, for people who enjoys the nature, beaches and hiking. If you are looking to party and Nightlife, this is not the place for you to stay. The island has a main trail that takes you all the way to the Praia do Dentista, which is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been. It is about 3 miles away from the hotel, which took us about 3 h back and forward from the hotel. Their staff will guide you half way into the trail. There are some really friendly dogs from the locals that will guide you all the way to the Paria do Dentista, it sounds crazy but it is really amazing. Along this trail you will also find some awesome beaches and four restaurants. There is one restaurant that is located very close to the Hotel. The food is phenomenal, however it is kind of pricey. We spent about R$200 for the two of us for lunch without drinks. Once we step into the island their staff were already there waiting for us. It was truly a personalized service. The manager, Andreia, was extremely kind and would ask us what type of food we would like to have for dinner. She arranges the boat trips, the guided hiking and pretty much anything else you need. She also set us up with some healthy snacks for the hiking trips and would fill up our water bottles. The hotel has complimentary snorkeling equipment and Kayaks. Since the ocean is very mellow, I have found it safe to kayak to other beaches around the hotel. We choose the package that included breakfast and dinner. The breakfast is more like a brunch. They cook eggs, pancakes plus many types of breads, lunch meat, juices, cheese, fresh fruits. You can also make yourself a sandwich to go for your hiking trip. The dinner was really good. They pretty much cook different kinds of Brazilian food. We decided to have mostly seafood because you are in an island and it is extremely fresh. I think it was a good deal to get the dinner package because the restaurant is very pricey and if you decided t order from their menu it would be more expensive than the price we paid for the stay with the dinner included. Also it was always a lot of food, we had breakfast, our fruit snacks during lunch and then dinner. They also offer a complimentary afternoon coffee and cookies break. The only thing that we didn't like was the bed. It is a queen size bed, which is a good size however we have a very tough bed at home, and their mattress was very soft and kind of old. I think they need to replace that. Their staff was really great and we were extremely satisfied with the service and the way they treat us. I will definitely come back to this true paradise. My girlfriend and I both loved our stay at this pousada. The rooms were very comfortable and the staff was wonderful. They were very helpful with arranging boat-trips around the islands and other activites we wanted to do. One of the most surprising features were the delicious food, rivaling that of the nearby (expensive and renowned) restaurant. The island has 4 beaches within a walking distance of 3 km, on a beautiful trail taking you through the forests and along the coast of the island. Highly recommended! (Bring sunscreen and mosquito-repellent)
