My wife and I stayed at the Occidental Tamarindo the last week of March. I read many reviews and was skeptical at first of the resort, but after a day or so was pleasantly surprised. The grounds are very well kept, the room was extremely nice and it had the best mattress I have ever had in a hotel! The only issue we had was a TV that didn't work, and it was replaced within 30 minutes with a brand new (and bigger) one. The drinks were very good, and it was a nice experience having Pina Coladas made with real Coconut and Pineapple Juice, as well as pectin in my Rum Punch. Very little if any powdered juices here. My favorite was the pineapple. I have never had such fresh juicy pineapple in my life! I can't even enjoy it at home now as it is so bland back in Canada. The food was decently good. It was pretty much always hot, but like many others have commented, there is an awful lot of consistency every day. Each of my 7 days for breakfast, lunch and dinner there were the same 3 cheeses and same 3 deli meats without fail. Some more variety would have made this a perfect stay. We also ate at the Italian Restaurant, which was quite good, but I highly recommend the Japanese Teppan as it was not only entertaining to watch, but absolutely delicious! We were there for the busiest week of the season, so loungers were a little difficult to get, but all in all, I would definitely recommend this resort, as after a week I am always ready to return home, but this time I really wish we had stayed at least 10, if not 14 days.

April 3-10, 2026 Occidental Tamarindo. Very nice accommodations. The bed rooms had simple decor very pleasant, our rooms were clean the maids were busy keeping our rooms clean and small refrigerator stocked. The beds were comfortable. The showers were hot. The air conditioning was nice. Our group was 15 people so thank you to the staff at the front desk, especially Denise,Lizeth and Victoria. They went above and beyond and were very helpful with everything we had going on. We had to switch rooms a few times for the group. The food at the buffet was hot, the fruits delicious and the vegetable fresh, everything was well stocked. For the dinners, the corner of the restaurant the stations rotated different food choices from steaks, Tacos and noodle dishes and many more. For breakfast it was waffles, pancakes, bacon and made to order omelets. All the food items were well stocked the whole time. Oh and the deserts! You could easily add another pound or two to your waist line. The staff-servers were incredible always busy making sure our drinks were full, the plates taken away the tables and floors clean. Everyday we had a nice server, Belarmina who greeted us with a smile and made sure our food and drinks were plentiful. The maintenance crew kept the side walks clean as did the pool crew. The Sushi restaurant and Italian had very nice, enjoyable meals. The deserts fantastic. At night they had the disco dance area and at the amphitheater they had entertainment. Ours was the dances of different countries, this group was so talented it was very entertaining. Dances from Costa Rica, Mexico, Chile,France, India and other countries performed by the same group. From the pool area just a few feet to the beach amazing sunsets. The Beauty was just incredible. Thank you, the management at Occidental and staff, it was a most enjoyable trip. This is my 5 trip to CR. Previous stays Tamarindo Diria, Croc hotel Jaco, Crocodile Bay, Golfito and El Parador Resort , Manuel Antonio.
