“Amfora Hotel”

Cracking hotel, beautiful view, great service, breakfast variety most excellent, service first class. Friendly, clean and efficient. My only gripe is their pricing strategy...they are way too high. Fortunately Hvar town is only half a mile down a seaside walkway. Well worth the walk.

We stayed here as a family of 4 in May 26. The recently upgraded rooms with adjustable air con, new shower room, coffee machine etc were great quality and spacious enough for us. The staff were all lovely and helpful and the pool area (although busy), still easy enough to find a lounger. The hotel was only partially occupied due to renovations which may have helped. The food was great and reasonably priced with good portions and lots of different options for breakfast. Our kids loved having food at the pool at lunchtime on their loungers. The location was also lovely, with a beach right next to the hotel and a peaceful 15 minute walk to the bustle of the town centre. Although the hotel hosts weddings and there were a few wedding groups here each day, we found the hotel quiet at night and had no issues with banging doors or corridor noise etc. The only reason for taking a star off the review was that there were some noisy (mostly British) individuals drinking by the pool in the afternoons and we also experienced a few British tourists attempting to scam their way around the hotel systems which was a bit unpleasant. A couple of girls stopped us on the way to breakfast one morning and asked if room number details were being taken on entry. We also had items added to our bill where other guests / non guests had charged drinks to our room at the pool and signed for these with fake names. The staff were amazing at sorting it out, but maybe better systems are needed to stop this as sadly there are clearly people using the hotel facilities and attempting to grift their way around for free. We left feeling a little ashamed to be British.

Our stay at Amfora Grand Beach Resort was a mix of excellent hospitality and a very disappointing start to what was a highly anticipated holiday. The positives first. The location is fantastic — just a short walk to the beach and Hvar town, making it an ideal base for exploring the island. The large pool area is beautiful, with plenty of space to relax, and the breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of options each morning. The staff in most areas of the hotel were wonderful. The breakfast team were consistently friendly and welcoming, especially Samuel, who made every morning enjoyable. The porters were the stars of the show — knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we arrived. The bar staff were also excellent, always providing friendly and efficient service. The housekeeping team and pool towel staff did a great job and were always pleasant to deal with. Unfortunately, our experience with reception management was not of the same standard. We travelled all the way from Australia and were staying for six nights. Prior to arrival, I made a phone call and sent two emails specifically requesting twin beds. Despite this, we were allocated Room 3516, which had only one bed and was located directly behind the hotel’s delivery area and driveway. On our first night, a delivery truck arrived at approximately 11pm and unloaded furniture for over an hour directly outside our room while refurbishment works were taking place. When I called reception, I was told this would continue every night for the following week. In addition, a large bright light from the delivery area shone directly into the room all night. The curtains did not adequately block the light — it was so bright that I could comfortably read a book without switching on a lamp. When we checked in and raised both the bedding issue and room location, we were told the hotel was full and that there were no alternative rooms available. The following morning, I again requested a room change due to the late-night deliveries and excessive light, only to be told once more that no other rooms were available. Thankfully, that evening a different manager was on duty at reception. He listened to our concerns, understood the situation immediately, and arranged for us to move to another room away from the delivery area. The difference was enormous and transformed the remainder of our stay. What was most frustrating was not that a problem occurred, but the lack of empathy and customer service shown by some members of the reception team. With the exception of the male manager who ultimately resolved the issue, the reception staff came across as cold and unwilling to help. This was particularly disappointing given the exceptional service provided by so many of their colleagues throughout the resort. Amfora Grand Beach Resort has a wonderful location, excellent facilities, and many outstanding staff members. However, the handling of our room allocation and the initial response from reception management fell well below the standard expected of a hotel with “Grand” in its name. The reception team could learn a great deal from their colleagues elsewhere in the resort, who clearly understand what genuine customer service means.
