Currently staying at the Monte Mullini hotel and cannot fault anything. All the staff, Reception (Monica), bar staff, pool staff and waiters in breakfast and restaurant are just amazing!! We have felt fully relaxed whilst staying here and that is down to the staff and the facilities! Cannot recommend this hotel enough! We will be back ! We also visited the spa and wellness centre today, again amazing!

“Very good but should be better.”

We booked a Deluxe two-bedroom Suite for three nights. This suite (404) was a duplex unit in an annex separate but very close to the main hotel. Many aspects of our stay were excellent: - spacious accommodation, including three bathrooms and two balconies - adults (16+) only pool and breakfast, both of which were extremely peaceful (the beach areas are not adults only) - breakfast till noon, with excellent food and service - great location on the coast with easy access to Rovinj town (25 minute stroll) - many food and drink options at the pool and beach. - free parking. We are confident that Monte Mulini is one of the very best resorts in the area and would visit again. There are several areas, though, where the guest experience could be further enhanced: - clearer communication at check-in about payment: I understood a hold was being placed on my card when in fact the full amount was being charged. - housekeepers seemed unaware there were five people in our unit (so they only left two bottles of water). Replenishment of bathroom supplies such as vanity kits was also inconsistent. When we asked for more water and supplies we received them but this is not something we should have had to worry about. - the hotel does not have its own fitness room and guests must use the nearby Lone Hotel. The Lone gym is well equipped with weights machines and free weights. The running machines, though (Precor TRM 811/835/885) are old and have non-responsive touch screens and gradient controls. - the room was clean on arrival but most cushions for the patio and veranda chairs were still in the wardrobe and we had to take them out ourselves. Pine needles between the sliding patio doors and some cobwebs also needed closer attention. Used glasses were never washed. - the hotel encourages online check-in. I took the trouble to get scans of all ID documents but when I tried to upload them the system was not working. - although our reservation was for five people, at check out there was an additional charge for the 5th person which was not included in the original price. - there was also a dangerously loose paving stone outside our room which guests can trip over. - finally, the hotel could do more to encourage guests to dine there in the evenings, especially as Rovinj is full of good restaurants. We really enjoyed the stay and this feedback should be placed in the context of an expensive resort that aims for very high levels of excellence. Finally, and this is an issue I have encountered elsewhere in Croatia, guests should be aware that sea views are very often obstructed by trees.

The staff at the Monte Mulini are exceptional - so attentive, interested, kind and happy to be around. The place is completely spotless - excellently maintained at every level however the beds and pillows are so unbelievably hard, it is difficult to feel rested. The room did also have a feel of Premier Inn about it (other than the mattress comfort) which left it far below the five star experience that the staff try so hard to maintain. An improvement would be a lovely squishy mattress and pillows as well as sorting the weird valve by the door that loudly hisses intermittently throughout the daylight hours (thank goodness it stopped at night - no idea what it did). The staff aim to provide an excellent culinary experience also however I found the food to be either bland or over seasoned or inadequately cooked. I raised the latter issue during my stay; my concerns were dealt with swiftly and I am very happy with the hotel’s management and customer care in this regard, thank you. Overall, this is an elegant, well managed hotel with beautiful touches and excellent staff; a better bed, some personal touches to the rooms and, I don’t know, a greater sense of fun? might make it feel a bit more enjoyable. It all just felt a bit corporate, serious and intense! Oh, and to be clear - bag your sunbed before breakfast; it is a thing here (pool or beach), too.

This hotel has great facilities and is a short walk to lovely Rovinj. However, our short trip was a birthday present for my partner and we were really disappointed that a hotel which is branded luxury didn't bother to help us celebrate in any way - all my partner got was a handshake. Worse still, champagne was given to another couple sitting next to us who told us it was for a birthday. We mentioned this and were told we'd be given champagne on our last night which didn't happen. The staff at dinner were fairly good but breakfast staff/service very poor and we had to ask for tea/coffee and menus. The hotel needs to train its staff at Reception in customer service too. We are long standing worldwide travellers but this was by far the worst adults-only 5 star we have stayed in - not because of the hotel itself but because of the poor customer service and attention to detail that one would expect.
