“Nice but read my comments”

This is a small hotel in a third world country. Take this into consideration when visiting Cuba as you will find that many hotels, even the 5 stars ones, don't meet American's expectations. Having said that, I found the hotel to be quite lovely. The room was clean, well kept and well supplied an… more

“Located on the main squre”

Very nice hotel with excellent staff. The staff were more than willing to go out of their way to help you resolve any problems you may have. The rooms had their own balcony and were well maintained. Meals were very good, I could not have asked for a better hotel.

“Restaurant was good.”

I didn't stay in the hotel, but ate in the restaurant. I thought the food was quite good, and there were a couple musicians who provided enjoyable entertainment at lunch. I would have liked to stay longer, but everybody in my group tour were in a hurry to walk around outside. Service was general… more

“Good food and location!”

My experience with this hotel is limited as I only ate in the restaurant, but its location was excellent and the food was as well. Our group tried several different entrees and they were all very well prepared, fresh, and well-seasoned. The service was friendly although not particularly efficient… more

“Nice hotel in the center of Guantanamo”

Nice hotel in the heart of Guantanamo. If you want to feel this small city, this is the place you want to stay. Comfortable rooms, not too noisy airco, okay breakfast, lunch and dinner. Helpful staff. Noisy bar on top of the hotel. In weekends until 2 AM. Earplugs necessary or join the youthful cro… more

  • Yes, guests at Marti have highlighted that: This is a small hotel in a third world country. Take this into consideration when visiting Cuba as you will find that many hotels, even the 5 stars ones, don't meet American's expectations. Having said that, I found the hotel to be quite lovely. The room was clean, well kept and well supplied and it even had a small working fridge in it. The AC worked, there were no bugs and I felt safe there. There were a couple of things wrong with the bathroom and they immediately came to the room and fixed them. The handyman was borderline rude with me, which I did not appreciate (there was no hot water in the shower, but there was in the sink, and he said: "There is hot water here, do you want to burn your skin? I replied, no, but I don't want to get goosebumps while showering either and the hot water you refer to is coming from the sink, not the shower where I need it". That was rude, in my book, but the Cubans of today are not the same of the Cubans of the past. I noticed that they need more customer service training. So if you are the hotel manager reading this, please continue to invest in the development of your staff. Still, I would definitely stay there again if I went to Guantanamo as choices are limited and this one is as good as it gets.. On the down side, if you have any mobility issues this may not be a hotel for you as it DOES NOT have an elevator. And even if you can maneuver stairs fine, it has no handrails. It does have a flat surface intended to be a handrail but because it is flat and attached to the wall if you were in danger of tripping down it will not provide a safe place to hang onto to avoid a fall on concrete and tile steps (ouch!) so be careful. Also, bringing your suitcases up and down may be difficult without the help of a strong person as it was in my case. The restaurant was nice and clean. I only ate breakfast there which was included with the room fee. One day we had to wait for the server several minutes because she was getting her eyebrows done in front of of all guests to see. That was off putting. Food is hard to get in Cuba so on the two days we were there there were no eggs and more than half the menu depended on eggs. I ordered the default ham and cheese sandwich and it was edible. The second day, however, the same day the server was beautifying herself on work time, I ordered the same thing and I could not eat it as it had a funky smell. I had brought cereal bars from the US with me and that's what I ate. Again, this is a 3rd world country and you just have to adjust to the situation. The other thing I didn't like was the noise from a party they have every Saturday night on the roof of the hotel. They keep that music so lound that I swear the entire town could hear it. The party lasted until 2 a.m. and even though I complained about the noise they matter of fact told me that's the way it is. So avoid staying there on Saturday night if you can (or join the party on the roof if you care about that stuff). In spite of these things, there are more good things about this hotel than bad, so I can see myself staying here again.
