We have been going to Brisas for over 20 years. The longest stay was 4 weeks. This time we decided on a 5 week stay. We arrived in early October and stayed until November 9. As usual Brisas was waiting for us with all the amenities that we were used to seeing. The first 2 and 1/2 weeks were full of sunshine. The hotel was not crowded as it wasn't the busy season. Lots of chairs available on the beach and at the pool. So many improvements had been made since our last trip in April. A new VIP area was being constructed (unfortunately it wasn't finished before we left). We couldn't wait to get our first Cuban coffee, and it didn't disappoint. We enjoy our breakfast at the Cuban restaurant on the beach. The beautiful view along with our coffees, breakfast and of course, my Mimosa, made it a perfect first morning at Brisas. We had our choice of eating at the buffet or sit down restaurants. We made reservations every night and were very pleased with the service and the choices. Lots of wine, beer, and other beverages always available. We are not fussy eaters, although I do not eat meat. Still found plenty to fill me up every night. The soups are the best in the world. Unfortunately, Hurricane Melissa decided to descend upon our vacation. Immediately the preparation started at the hotel to fend off any damage the hurricane was going to cause. Many windows boarded up, light fixtures and poles taken down, chairs and table all removed. Everything was taken care of. Fights came in to take the tourists home. Unfortunately, there were 6 of us that couldn't be accommodated. We had booked flight only and all the flights took home the all-inclusive customers. It was concerning to us, and also the staff. Not only were they responsible for the upkeep of the hotel during the raging storm, but they also had to prepare for our safety. We were so impressed with how they took care of us. There was a safe room set up for us with lounges to rest on. Power was on all night and the Cappuccino Bar remained open. We could get non-alcoholice beverages and watch Television. It was a great distraction from the storm. The management and staff were amazing during this time. A group of about 25 pilots and flight crew were brought to the hotel to wait out the storm. They were accommodated also. The storm raged on, and it was very scary, but we were all safe. I cannot reiterate how the Management and Staff were so aware of everyone and all the surroundings. They kept us informed of all that was going on. We felt very safe and secure in our little area. Early in the morning a nice, boxed lunch was provided for everyone. It was a very special treat that we weren't expecting at all. When Melissa left the area, we were able to go back to our room. When we saw the damage to the property we were in shock. The beach, the beautiful foliage, the thatched roofs all were damage badly. It was so devastating to see. Within minutes of the storm clearing the management and staff got right to the cleanup. One restaurant was kept open for all that were in the hotel. Staff and workers that were brought in were also having meals there. The food was amazing. Great breakfast, lunch and supper. Within a week, beautiful Brisas was almost back to normal. My husband and I made such good and bonding friendships during this time. We were at Brisas to celebrate our anniversary (as we usually do). We did not think for a moment that we would be able to have our special evening. But once again Brisas Management and staff outdid themselves and provided us, and another couple, with an amazing anniversary breakfast in our room and an exquisite dinner on the beach. Brisas always goes that extra step for all that come to stay. Our hearts were truly filled with love for each and every one of the management and staff that held us up during this very trying time for them all. If ever you are hesitating a visit to Brisas, don't. I cannot say enough about Brisas. There is no other Jewel in the Caribbean. It is Brisas. (I am having issues uploading my photos).
