“Beautiful escape”

You drive from Havana along the main highway avoiding the ox carts then you drive through Guanahacabibes national park (stopping to show your passport). After miles of tropical forest passing iguanas, tropical birds and wild pigs, along with glimpses of white sandy beaches, palm trees and rolling … more

“Mosqito season gave us our own bounty beach”

We arrived in thunder and heavy rain, after a long drive from Havana, and spent 4 nights as the only guests at the place. We snorcled most of the time, since the ocean was the only place we could escape from the many flying insects. We saw nobody else on the Beach.

How to arrive

Las Tumbas - See map

Around the westernmost tip of the island, in the almost virgin Guanahacabibes Peninsula (a Biosphere Reserve since 1987), in the province of Pinar del Rio, rises Villa Cabo San Antonio with its 16 log cabins, lovely beach, unique flora and fauna. Though only some 350 km away from Havana it takes forever to get there. Roads are not exactly in perfect condition, there aren’t enough signs either, and the last 60 km or so are driven through the nature reserve of Cabo San Antonio, maybe stopping for large iguanas that are sunbathing in the middle of the road. Once you arrive though, if you are a nature lover, you will adore the place!

  • Yes, guests at Villa Cabo De San Antonio have highlighted that: You drive from Havana along the main highway avoiding the ox carts then you drive through Guanahacabibes national park (stopping to show your passport). After miles of tropical forest passing iguanas, tropical birds and wild pigs, along with glimpses of white sandy beaches, palm trees and rolling ocean you reach this spot. The cabins are fabulous and the best accommodation (beautiful air-conditioned wooden cabins) we found in Cuba - definitely 5 star apart from the occasional loss of water pressure. The beaches are white and unspoiled and almost deserted, there is a coral reef and tropical fish a hundred meters or so out - easy snorkelling. The only down side is the food which is average (not bad, just average) - otherwise it would truly be five star. The cocktails are good though.
