A 5 star hotel - made 4 star by the entertainment team. We’ve had just over a week at the Sunrise Tucana and the hotel is beautiful. It’s very modern, the rooms are lovely, everywhere is clean and very well looked after. This is our first time at an all inclusive resort where there is no buffet, all meals are Al a Carte, but we were pleasantly surprised and didn’t have a bad meal. Yades was the best spot for lunch and it’s a beautiful setting for evening meals too. The staff at the hotel are top class, they cannot do enough for you and work so hard to make sure you have what you need. We found the only thing to let the hotel and our stay down was the “animation team”. One of the males, who conveniently was the only one to never wear a name badge, was a real annoyance. When clearly trying to relax by the pool, he will repeatedly nag you, sit on your sun bed, read your phone, with some guests we saw him splash them with water whilst sleeping, pick up their drinks etc. He is pushy, arrogant and we dreaded his presence every time he was near. Whilst we understand their job is to encourage guests to join in with activities, he should read the room and know when to leave people alone.

The hotel itself is a small, modern, boutique-style property with a quirky and stylish atmosphere, perfect for that aesthetic influencer vibe. Cleanliness throughout the resort/resort grounds was excellent, and the rooms were well designed with a nice layout, attractive interiors, and good bathroom facilities/amenities. The pool and beach areas were also well maintained, with high-quality towels, loungers, and bean bags provided that added to the overall comfort. Staff around the pool, beach, and beach restaurant were particularly friendly, attentive, and welcoming however, there were a few occasions during our stay where hostility towards female guests was noticeable (unrelated to the staff mentioned above) which at times created an uncomfortable and unpleasant atmosphere to be in/around. As a whole, as beautiful as the resort was, there were several aspects of the experience that all fell below expectations, particularly given the price paid: 1. The Tucana app was not user-friendly and made restaurant bookings/accessing menu’s unnecessarily complicated and frustrating. 2. Communication surrounding entertainment was often inconsistent, with certain events being advertised both verbally and in writing differing from what was actually delivered. This ultimately resulted in us missing the majority of the fire-breathing show, as we had been advised it would take place on the hotel rooftop, where a quiz event was held instead, while the actual performance was taking place on the beach at the neighbouring sister hotel. 3. The food quality was fairly average overall, with orders often arriving incorrectly, or sometimes not at all. The menus became repetitive, particularly at breakfast where the same options were served daily with no further variation. Food presentation also did not always match descriptions, with additional ingredients such as nuts appearing without being listed and so a significant concern, and something to consider for those travelling with allergies. 4. There are no gym or wellness facilities on site, meaning guests must walk over a 2km round journey to use the facilities at the sister hotel proving highly impractical and a large inconvenience. Other drawbacks, along with several smaller practical details that felt overlooked and would benefit from improvement, included: 1. There is little-no signage. More signage around the resort would be helpful, particularly information regarding the jellyfish on the beach, as well as printed restaurant/bar menus outside venues for guests who are unable to access them easily through the app and for those who prefer to visualise in person instead of via a phone. 2. The all-inclusive wristband attachments were poorly designed and quite sharp, resulting in cuts to both skin and clothing and so had to be removed almost immediately upon arrival. 3. The majority of the promotional images/content/media posted online predominantly feature the ‘Posh Club’ and suite areas, which require a significant hefty additional upgrade fee to be able to access and enjoy. 4. At check-out, we were informed by reception staff that two private rooms would be available for us to use for showering prior to our evening transfer, and were advised to return approximately 1–2 hours beforehand to gain access. However, upon arriving within the stated timeframe, we were told that there were three groups already waiting ahead of us, with an estimated 40-minute wait per group. When you have a flight to catch and have spent the entire day in the heat, this was far from an ideal situation to be faced with. As a result, we were left with no option but to shower and get ready using the very open pool facilities, which lacked privacy and grew an audience making for a very disappointing and poor end to the holiday. Granted, since posting my review, the hotel have reached out and acknowledged their accountability for the experience we had which I respect and appreciate however, while the hotel has it’s strong points in terms of it’s design, cleanliness and photogenicness, the overall experience did not justify the premium price tag with the negatives outweighing the positives and ourselves as a result, unfortunately most likely deciding against returning to this specific resort in the future.
