Stayed here from mid-March for a fortnight. Its about half hour north of Marsa Alam airport, which is quicker by private taxi. First impressions of reception is very good, but arrived around 10pm a d it was very loud and extremely busy. Luggage kept while we were told late food at Saffron large buffet restaurant. There was plenty to eat which was a great as we were starving. After food taken to upgraded pool view room by golf buggy. Dropped at door and luggage taken in. Room was massive, great view, well furnished with super king sized bed, and a single bed which wedding use. Massive shower, but could have done with a large shower head. Minor gripe. Room cleaned every day. Towels changed. Everything always spotlessly clean. Bed comfy and very welcoming. Our room 6129 was closest to Sorprano restaurant and where we ate breakfast most days. Its a buffet restaurant so be prepared for it to be busy and noisy. We sat outside which despite the odd windy day, was much nicer. Staff were great, and very attentive with Arnold tip or two. There are sparrows flying round looking for scraps, but you will also see Laughing Doves and Egrets walking around your feet. Evening meals we tried as many options as possible, eat a bit later around 8 and its much quieter. The L'Asiatique and Zum Kaiser were much more like an alley la carte, s d probably should have been as they were the most civilised places to eat. You can eat outside but the seating is like being sat on a train platform, with people walking past all the time. Should have been cordoned off to make it more exclusive. We did try the main buffet restaurants but found them too much of a bun fight. We booked the A La Carte restaurant which was close to the Saffron restaurant. You had to order your food in advance. It was set in a large marquee type tent, nice welcome, starters already on table. Service was patchy and no sooner had you finish one course, the next was on the table. Could have waited a bit, but my opinion is that meal is cooked elsewhere and brought over. Food was poor, desert was inedible. Worst A La Carte we have ever eaten at. Didn't bother again. Favourite was L'Asiatique, only down side was they moved Indian food to Saffron and made it Chinese only. Better to let it stay as it was. Pools are numerous and all were clean. Gardens are wonderfully maintained and gardeners are out all the time. Be prepared this is a very big site. Hundreds of rooms, loads of pools, only a couple heated and they tend to be the busiest. Pool close to our room was very nice if cool, but this was heated one close by. Gripe about pools is they tend to be 120cm deep, with the odd one 150cm deep. Fresh towels every day. You get 2 pool cards. Towels are pretty good and bigger than those in the room. Be prepared to get annoyed by the guys trying to sell massages and other treatments. For us the best area was the beach. Plenty of sun beds, wind breaks and parasols to get out of the sun. The pier is excellent and long, but occasionally the waves are too large to swim off it. The lagoon area is full of fish and great for snorkeling. The water off the pier is deep blue and fantastic for snorkeling. There is a diving centre on the beach but it is not part of the hotel although they do come round trying to sell trips. Booked one with Momo, and had a decent day snorkeling. Food at beach restaurants is pretty good, some cooked fresh for you, but covers all snack essentials. You can get ice cream at various places in the day, and there is a paid one in the evening. We did have a couples massage but neither of us really enjoyed. Nice place but no atmosphere. There are waterparks on site, for adults, but the best are for the kids. Really impressed with them. The big draw for me was the VR equipment in the Millennium Bar, absolutely great fun. After 10 bar becomes a disco. Bars are very busy but sports bar was our favourite. Drinks were pretty good especially the cocktails. Beer and wine decent as well. The evening entertainment is pretty lame stuff but the animation staff work hard to get people involved. Lots of stuff during the day too if beach foam party or water aerobics are your things. There are tandem double bikes to get around the site which are free, we didn't bother but you get plenty of exercise walking. There are shops and a pharmacy on site, not cheap but fun to barter a bit. Summary This hotel is predominantly used by Europeans, especially Polish and Germans. Not a bad thing, but worth knowing. The site is huge and very open. No place to hide if it's windy. Food is generally very good, as are the drinks. Apart from the Saffron, deserts are very poor, but loads there if thats your thing. Salad options are very limited and I usually like to have this as a starter. Main courses there is plenty of choice for most plates, but it's a buffet so prepare to be jostled. The best thing thing apart from the amazing buildings and gardens are the staff. They are the crown jewel, so be generous with your tips.
