Stayed here for a week in July. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the beds were so comfortable. The pool was fabulous for my 10 year old son and it was a perfect location to walk to the harbour. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The hotel was elegant and the host so friendly. I would strongly recommend staying here. Beautiful!

“Almost great”

Two couples spent a few days in the Ti An Amiral suite which is on three floors. Ground floor is entrance, shower and toilet room & stairs to 1st floor. First floor is a walk-through bedroom with a king size bed, just sufficient space either side, a wardrobe and hanging space in a cupboard built under the stairs to the third floor. There is also a small table and one dining chair. On the third floor is the kitchen, dining area large enough for 4 people and a sofa bed. The main bedroom & en-suite are off the kitchen area. The suite is advertised for up to 6 people but that would be a real squeeze. They provide a really impressive, but small, swimming pool in a wonderful all day sun trap and impressive garden. Also provided is an indoor jacuzzi and sauna as part of the package. The place was spotlessly clean with lovely crisp white bed linen. The kitchen is pretty well equipped with oven, half size dishwasher & fridge/freezer and adequate cupboard space. The place is only a five minutes walk from the harbour, bakery, several good restaurants a couple of creperies & five minutes drive from a supermarket. Stephanie was there to greet us at the allotted time Cohen by her. She promised a couple of pool towels that never materialised nor did we ever see her again. However we exchanged an email or two partly to advise the pool would close 2 days before we were to leave. This was after an earlier email promise that the pool would be available for our entire stay! If you can cope, as we did, with a walk through bedroom then great. But for many it would be far from perfect. Stephanie has a good business and has great taste. The apartment was well presented. But it is the little things that grate! Why oh why is one expected to pay an additional cleaning charge which appeared to be a fait accomplis! Almost perfect!

I don’t apologise for the lengthy review but I do explain that hospitality provider inspections formed part of my profession before retirement! It’s very early June and we chose our self-catering accom in Benodet carefully. As it’s promotion said it was on the ground floor, it would be suitable for someone who finds stairs difficult and, as it was also for 4 people, and there was only 2 of us, it was sure to be spacious. As the weather in Brittany is notoriously unpredictable, we chose somewhere with English language channels on the TV, to keep us amused in the evenings, and not far from where it was happening, in case we needed to scamper back in a hurry. The provision of a bath and a big bed was also a must and a swimming pool and private parking, whilst not a deal breaker, was a plus. The first thing to go wrong was they discovered that, after accepting our booking, they didn’t have a ground floor apartment available but assured us the stairs to the first floor were “doux”. With only 4 days before our arrival we decided to take a first floor apartment as it had everything else on our must have list. We arrived and there were quite a few “doux” stairs to the very small apartment (la Fortune) - a struggle for someone in their 70s with 2 replaced hips. If there had been 4 of us, 2 would have had to sleep in the living room on a very small, uncomfortable sofa bed - so not that spacious either. It did, however have a decent TV, except that the satellite connection wasn’t available and, though reported early on, did not get fixed during our stay. Our French wasn’t good enough to cope with French channels and the English subtitles, offered as an alternative, didn’t work either! The bathroom was good, lots of hot water, a decent sized bath and plenty of space, even if it was impossible to open a window because a piece of opaque plastic that had been screwed over it! We didn’t use the very clean and inviting looking outdoor pool, as the weather wasn’t good enough neither did we use the hot tub or the sauna. The Villa is in a great position, close to the river and to some good restaurants, but there is much that could be improved. To start with it’s really not big enough for 4 people. Two of us coped but, even then, it is small. A bureau and large carver chair, in the only small bedroom, takes up a lot of space and could be replaced by a more useful small dressing table and stool. No one goes on hols to write their memoirs! The bed was large and comfortable (but you might like to take your own pillows) and clothes storage was fine. The sofa bed, the only furniture to relax on in the living room, needs replacing with something more comfortable. The provision of a range of English DVDs would have been helpful, we would have brought some from home if we had known of the TV problems. Kitchen facilities were adequate with a good sized fridge and, if there were only 2 dining chairs instead of 4, there would be more space to move around. The apartment decor was bland but clean and the welcome, by owner Stephanie, was friendly and informative. Finally, those of us who visit France regularly, love shutters on property. They keep the light out at night and the heat out during the day. The property had some but, sadly, only one in place at our bedroom window! Would we return? To beautiful Benodet - most certainly yes. But, at over a £100 a night, I think we probably could have found better quality, larger self catering accommodation.
