“Great location”

The hotel is in a great location in the centre of Caen, near to bars and restaurants. Hotel is clean and rooms are serviced daily. Plenty of choice for breakfast and underground parking lot next to hotel.

“Nice and new but paid parking.”

Very clean and roomy. Temperature control. Better than average breakfast. Bathroom comfortably large. Only negative is that Parking is paid and hard to navigate underground. Enter in underground lot by hotel. Wander to the south for the door and elevator up.

Easy walk from train station with direct tram access. A few restaurants one block away. Room usual Ibis. Temperature outside was cool but room Hot/stuffy so ran fan, which helped, but no air conditioning. Lobby was comfortably cool, so air on there. Didn't ask for tool to open window (if possible) but then would have had traffic noise. Breakfast good but tour group before us had cleaned out the fruit.

“A stay that left much to be desired”

I stayed in the hotel five nights with a group of a similar interest - namely military history. The Ibis Styles Caen Centre Gare hotel had several positives, many negatives and an odd elevator security system. Positives: the hotel is new, location is good, the room was large and the bathroom very nice. Cleanliness was excellent, breakfast fine. Negatives: I had booked a single room, when entering I found two separate beds. No problem as such, but there was only one chair, an uncomfortable plastic chair like in a garden. If this room is occupied by two persons, as it is designed for, where does one of them sit? A sofa or two easy chairs would be needed, at least chairs with cushions! No table was provided, although the room was big enough for it. There was no minibar or fridge, coffee maker or a tea set. The only "glassware" were two minuscule glasses in the bathroom. There was no coat rack or cupboard, the place to hang jackets or shirts was too short to hang trousers in hangers. There was an air conditioning system, but in my room it did not work. When I asked the reception the answer was "it is not on". There was no way to air the room, the window could not be opened and no fresh air vent existed. The nights were sweaty, especially as the bed cover was thick and heavy. No light blanket was available. The elevator security system was very strange: to get into any floor except the one with the reception, you had to enter a 5 (!) digit code. Most odd was the the code was the same for every guest ... The room key was a card, but the elevator did not have a card reader. Too elaborate and not very secure. The reception personnel was not very fluent with English language, but they did their best. They were also responsible for the bar service, no Campari could be found but the white wine was good. I could see myself coming back, but only when the air condition works and the furniture and the equipment of the rooms is upgraded.
