“Two days in Le Havre”

Fresh, clean and modern accommodation in a good location. Staff were friendly and efficient. On-site secure parking available. Good pricing at the bar which was open until 1 am. The continental style breakfast was also reasonably priced and offered a good variety. Good value for money.

I wrote a short, simple review on IHG site and will incorporate some of that plus Benoit de Mollerat's, the general manager, response. My IHG profile requests the highest floor and farthest from the elevator, in quiet area. We were given such, Room #518, which was at the opposite end of the hall from the elevator bank, on the top 5th floor. We heard very little noise so that was a plus. The view wasn't spectacular and mostly the neighborhood behind the hotel. The room was tiny with less than King sized bed as compared to recent HIE visits but mostly clean; there was a little dust on top of the higher furniture. The bathroom had only a shower with sink & toilet as well. Again, all very clean with full squeeze bottle for soap, shampoo, etc. The heater seemed to work a little once I figured out the thermostat. Note: It snowed in the morning when we were leaving (about 1'C,33'F) with minor amount sticking. M. Mollerat responded to my other review that we were given the best/largest room due to my IHG Diamond status. Thanks, but it makes me wonder about the other rooms? I knew that there were no suites since this wasn't an HIE "and suites". Upon arrival, a nice, helpful lady checked us in. We conversed about 90% in French so I enjoyed the practice. She was very welcoming and explained the hotel, the surrounding area (the closest grocery store, a Carrefour), and said she would order us a taxi at 11h45 the next morning. The next morning I changed the time to 11h due to the weather. All was handled professionally, and we got a great taxi ride to the snowy port for our NCL cruise. My biggest issue with this hotel was the breakfast. In the US/Canada, HIE always has some hot choices as well as some boiled eggs; there were boiled eggs here with a few pastries and fruits. Restocking was very slow. M. Mollerat's response was "IHG standards only require a continental buffet for Holiday Inn Express, and not American buffet (with hot items)." At the Sydney airport HIE, they had some bacon and cold scrambled eggs? Also, I always receive 500 welcome points at other HIE locations. M. Mollerat responded "Regarding the welcome amenity, please be sure that we strictly respect the IHG standards, which is 300 IHG points for your status." I relayed this to someone at the Intercontinental in Barcelona after our cruise and was told that she had also received only 300 at her last HIE stay but thought 500 was still the norm for HIE? In conclusion, the hotel was great for 1 night before a cruise. There weren't any decent sit down restaurants near by so we got pizza and wings a few blocks away to go with our wine and snacks from Carrefour. We didn't feel unsafe even though it wasn't the best neighborhood! Our cruise began on the 3rd Thursday in November, and we had hoped to get some Beaujolais Nouveau that morning at the Carrefour to take on our cruise, but the weather prevented a walk there. There are no other IHG properties nearby so this would be our choice if back for a cruise. It was an easy walk from the train station. To end with a positive comment, the staff and cleanliness were both mostly top notch!

This hotel is state of the art when we consider the apperance and the comfortable and very clean rooms. Great beds and shower. Good internet and secure parking free of charge. However due to Corona measures of owners only one employee available that acts as receptionist, barkeeper, cook etc. Only a limited selection of prepared food available that's heated for you. Quality reasonable, price too high. Breakfast is served in a bag and too high priced for that reason. Staff is friendly and tries to give service, however when its busy, this one men/women show reminds me of Faulthy Towers with John Cleese. Management should not try to save cost by cutting down the staff. Hotel ok, but restaurant is not what I am used to with Campanilles.
