“The Old Admiralty Building”

Wonderful high ceilings in this historic building. Clean and basic, a good base for Bayonne as you can walk everywhere from here. Rooms are all a very generous size. Dishwasher and washing machine were very useful. Lovely parquet floors. Beds comfortable.

Only in France could you describe this building as a Hotel. It felt like you were one of the locals living in a regular apartment block. Having eventually found the place which involved driving through a virtually hidden, ancient, miniscule archway off the main road, the reception turned out to be an extension of a real estate agency, all very confusing and quirky. Access to the one room apartment was through a massive side door that Arnold Schwarzenegger may well have had difficulty opening when you fully laden down with luggage. All of that stated, the room was adequate for our one night stay. It comprised a small kitchenette area with hotplate, microwave/oven and a dishwasher. Clean and functional no real view of note to mention. Secure car parking cost €6 per night and was a 5 minute walk away. Arriving outside office hours involves a rather messy key collection system which thankfully we did not have to make use of. The building is located in a tiny plaza more or less adjacent to the cathedral. All the major attraction are within easy walking distance. Overall value was good and I would return if ever I stay in Bayonne again.

“Decent Hotel, Great Location”

The room was basic but comfortable, with a little kitchen, tv, small bed area with twin beds (not much space to move them apart), and good size bathroom. The common areas are somewhat dated but the apartment itself was clean & modern, if not luxurious. We arrived after a long day of travel from Vancouver, four hour layover in Paris, flight to Biarritz, and bus to Bayonne, so we knew that quiet and sleep would be top priority. We requested a quiet room on an upper floor, far from any elevator and exterior noise. We were given a room on first floor, immediately adjacent to the elevator, & overlooking the square where, at around 7:00 pm, a rock band with huge speakers and drums started playing in the square in front of our room. Needless to say it was far from quiet. Due to the reception service being only certain hours, we had no way to request a different room (if they even had one available). However, the band did shut down at a reasonable time and it was quiet through the night. The location of the hotel is excellent, right next to the cathedral and easy walking distance to everything. We walked to the train station next morning in only about 15 minutes. Though disappointed that the hotel ignored our room request, we would recommend the hotel in general for the cleanliness and great location.

“Basic and comfortable ”

We stayed a few nights at this hotel. There is a little refrigerator, everything you need to serve/make a simple meal and a dishwasher. The room was comfortable and a nice view. The hotel also has a place to do laundry. The location is fabulous.

The room was reasonably modern, well equipped and quiet, the location was perfect for exploring Bayonne on foot, there was cheap parking nearby, and the city is terrific. But.... The room was reasonably modern, well equipped and quiet, the location was perfect for exploring Bayonne on foot, there was cheap parking nearby, and the city is terrific. But.... Bathroom smelled strongly of mould/mildew when we arrived; staff did nothing obvious to correct problem other than removing towels (?). Stove-top was greasy. Freezer door hinge in room fridge was broken. Internet disconnected frequently, with frustrating process of logging in again. Black mould on the wall outside our rooms. Maintenance needs to be better!
