The staff as always make this hotel. Thank you to them for the many years of faithful service to the guests and many management operators/owners. The time has come for a complete renovation which is badly needed - but only in the rooms in my opinion. The public areas (reception, bar, pool, restaurant) are superior to a number of hotels passing themselves off as 5* Hotels, and of course the staff are always smart and provide a great service. My girlfriend and I visited this hotel on 2nd September for a week’s package holiday from Jet2.com. An airline I cannot praise enough. Their customer service,holidays and prices are second to none. Anyway, we flew from East Midlands airport in the afternoon and due to Covid-19 regulations had to wear a mask from the minute we entered the airport to getting into our room at the hotel. Deep joy! Even so, Jet 2 were still very efficient and the flight was on time and because of a tail wind, we even arrived early. We had booked a superior room with sea view and once we’d checked into the hotel and gone into our room on the 5th floor, we were not impressed with it being “superior”. We went to reception and spoke to George there who informed us that we’d have to speak to the room Manager in the morning. This we did to find out that “superior” just referred to rooms on the 5th floor and above ( there were 9 floors). Otherwise, these rooms were identical to the non superior rooms. Our room was right above the bar overlooking the pool and also the sea. In line with what other reviewers have said, I’d agree the hotel could benefit from being modernised but the place was spotless. We had asked for twin beds, which we had and one day I had to move my bed and even under there it was totally spotless. It was also not as bad as some reviewers made out. Lots of quality coat hangers, powerful shower, new mattresses and pillows, large flat screen tv, WiFi etc. The maid cleaned the room and made the beds etc every afternoon and I cannot praise her efficiency enough. So, when we met with the room Manager, she was helpful in explaining what a superior room was and let us look at one on the 8th floor away from the pool. However, it was identical to the room we were already in and so we decided to stay where we were. We had booked half board as it was less than £30 each for the week over the price of just bed and breakfast. Again, because of COVID-19, any meals in the restaurant had to be served by the staff and they did a cracking job considering. You may have needed to queue for a couple of minutes for your food but everyone was careful to socially distance and it always went very smoothly. The hotel was not full by any means and I’d estimate it was probably half full at the most. This meant you were able to always get a table at breakfast and dinner either inside the dining room or out on the terrace. Breakfast. There was hot food and cold selection as you would expect. However, I’d agree with other reviewers that the hot food was merely warm, although the toast was always nice! We’ve stayed at other hotels where the breakfast was merely warm but there was a microwave that you could use to heat it up. Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, this was not available here. The cold selection however was very comprehensive and was what we tended to go for. Dinner. We tried dinners most nights and although adequate, they were nothing to write home about with the exception of the sweets selection and fresh fruits which were always delicious. Snacks. The pool bar served snacks at lunchtime and I can recommend the hot dog with freshly cooked sliced potatoes at 4 euros. Not so the gyros at 6 euros. We utilised the hotel sun beds every day and had no trouble getting two. However, despite signs saying you were not allowed to reserve sun beds by putting towels on them, everyone did. I’m an early riser and would be on my bed reading my book by 8am and you could see all the “reservists “ claiming their beds every day. Particularly noted was a group of 4 young girls who would reserve 4 beds and then not turn up to use them until mid afternoon. The location of this hotel is fantastic. Right on the sea front and although it’s on a road, there was barely any traffic on it and consequently, it was very quiet. 5 minutes and you were in the centre of town to the right or on the beach to the left. The resort itself was really nice. A good selection of bars, shops and things to do despite the COVID-19 situation. It seems the Hermes is due for a refurbishment at the end of September. The only negative about the holiday was due to its sister hotel next door also being refurbished while we were there. This meant that every day from about 8am until gone 6pm there would be loud noise from this building work which otherwise spoiled a relaxing time by the pool. In summary, this is a lovely resort, probably more for couples than families. The hotel is very good and I’m sure when refurbished and no Covid-19 restrictions , would be truly excellent.

“Relaxation ”

Spent 11 nights here at this wonderful hotel. Arrived late at night, my asked have we a sea view then woke up in the morning to......well look at the photos. Spent 11 nights here at this wonderful hotel. Arrived late at night, my asked have we a sea view then woke up in the morning to......well look at the photos. Now I'm really fussy with food and I couldn't find any fault, lots of choice it was lovely. No due to the covid virus the staff did an amazing job couldn't find fault here either. Rooms cleaned every day yes ok they are dated but who spends time in there room. First time to Crete will definitely come back. Lovely people great relaxing holiday meet some friends for life. Well done Hermes under the circumstances you pulled it of perfectly 👌
