Travelled early July. On arrival we were greeted by lovely friendly reception staff. We had booked 2 rooms as was travelling with our 20+ daughter. We hoped to be close to each other but unfortunately were not that close but they offered us a 2 bed apartment instead which was really lovely so we went with that. It was in a perfect position between the quiet pool and the dining room, and quiet. The hotel is very laid back. No long trousers needed in the dining room for men which is nice. The food was good, plenty of choice for breakfast. Lunch and dinner was good but there was quite a lot of very similar dishes as the week went on and we did eat out a couple of nights, once in Chania and once at a local Taverna. In Chania there are so many restaurants you are spoilt for choice so definitely worth eating at least once there. The cleanliness of the hotel we couldn’t really fault. The towels were changed frequently and the bedding also. Everyone was so friendly, from the waiters to the bar staff to the reception staff. We had a problem with the shower draining which we had resolved really quickly and after that was fine. Value for money it was on a par with other places we have stayed at on an all inclusive basis. There was things going on by the main pool during the day like aqua areobics etc but we prefer sunbathing by the quiet pool and relaxing. The evening entertainment was the only thing that made me give this hotel a 4 star. We like to eat between 8-8.30, but the entertainment started about 9.00pm so was usually still in the restaurant, which is fine, our choice, but the entertainment was usually finished by 10.15 which is early when you are on holiday. We fell in love with Chania, just 4km from Daratso. It has so much character, is charming, endless choice of shops and restaurants and you can watch the sunset from the harbour which is beautiful. The bus runs regularly, about every 15 mins and is €1.30 each way paying by ticket machine, €2.30 paying on the bus. We had a really lovely holiday and would definitely stay at Althea village hotel again, despite giving it 4 stars for the choice of food, we would just choose to eat out a couple of times again.

The good: Pool: 3 big pools, 2 kid pool. No sunbed wars at 7am. We were always at the pool around 9am after breakfast and almost all sunbeds were empty, some were reserved with towels, maybe 1/3 of them at the pool we were at got reserved and we were at the biggest pool. The good: Pool: 3 big pools, 2 kid pool. No sunbed wars at 7am. We were always at the pool around 9am after breakfast and almost all sunbeds were empty, some were reserved with towels, maybe 1/3 of them at the pool we were at got reserved and we were at the biggest pool. Many left the pool around 2 or 3pm so you can find plenty of space in the middle of the day if you want to sleep in. Hygiene: hotel areas were always clean, and they cleaned our room everyday. New towels everyday. Bed sheet change often as well. Services: very convenient with a hotel market for snacks, drinks and other "vacation" items. We loved the snack bar that was open from 11 to 5 they had good gyros. The bar area is nice. Water fountains available so we didn't have to buy so many water bottles. Entertainment and activities at the hotel if you dont want to go out. If you ask the reception they can help you book trips or excursions. Staff: all friendly and helpful. The negative (subjective): - Too many kids. Can be quite overstimulating if you are a childless couple. But good hotel for families. - cleaning was overall good but as a germaphobe there is room for improvement with some areas in the rooms that can be overlooked (like the toilet roll holder that was full of brown spots on the inside) - our room needs a better door. We had a minor ant issue because of a gap in the door i think so we had to always stuff alot of paper in the gaps everyday which was annoying. Idk if they came from somewhere else. - Food is mid at best. Little variety and bland on most days. Breakfast was good, lunch was mostly disappointing, so we ended up having gyros from the snack bar instead, dinner was a hit or miss. Expect better food from a 4 star hotel.
