Quick summary: Peaceful, relaxing, boutique hotel with rooms facing the sea. Quiet rooms with good air-conditioning. Having the balcony facing the sea is tranquil and relaxing. Breakfast is included (a la carte menu plus a self-serve buffet that included mimosas). Friendly staff and amazing massages by Sotiria. Detailed review: Hotel is good for (In my opinion): Couples, friends, solo travelers who want to be close to city center without the hustle and bustle. Hotel is not good for: - people who want an active night life (hotel is about a 25 minute walk to city center) - families with little children (the rooms have showers but no bathtubs) The photos on hotel website accurately depict the rooms and all rooms face the water. The beds are very comfortable. Air conditioning works good - for the loft there is a thermostat for each floor. Lots of outlets near the beds (2-3 for each side of the bed). Control panel by each side of the bed that allows you to turn on/ off the lights, open/close black out curtains, and even activate "do not disturb." The bathrooms have steam showers that are incredible! (Family loft has two full sized bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs) I stayed in a family loft on the 3rd floor (room 303) which was large however I did ask to look at the Junior Suite and the Deluxe Suite. Both are quite small but good for one or two people. The Junior Suite has a window that opens but no balcony. If your budget allows, opt for a room with a balcony (deluxe suite or larger) so that you can sit outside and watch the beautiful sunsets. Outstanding service from reception to restaurant to housekeeping with special acknowledgements of Hyacinth, Emi, and Kostas. Spa services by Sotiria were incredible! Facilities: - there is a small workout room with a few free weights, one treadmill, one exercise bike (the photo on the hotel website is truly the extent of the room) - Indoor heated swimming pool and outdoor Jacuzzi (not heated) - Spa. They have a treatment room in the pool area. No one was at the pool when I had my sessions however I do not know if noise would be a factor during busy season. They offer facials, a few body treatments, and massage. Sotiria provided the treatments and was absolutely amazing (I had the deep tissue massage, moisturizing body scrub and - on a separate day - the hot stone massage). Tip - if you are hiking the Samaria Gorge, book a deep tissue or hot stone massage for the day after the hike - it will help with recovery. Periplous Restaurant - seating is outdoors on the water which is beautiful to watch the sunset as you look across at Old town Chania (see picture) - the hotel recommends having a reservation for dinner especially during high season - food can be delivered to your room for service charge of €10 - Breakfast (8 am - 11 am) is included with the room price. Self serve buffet with items such as fruit and pastries as well as an a la carte menu with 11 options (such as omelettes, Sfakian pie, and toasted focaccia with smoked salmon) - lunch is limited (called snack menu) and has salad options, homemade pizza, chicken sandwich, and a tasty shrimp tortilla. - Dinner was delicious (menu available on the website). I highly recommend the Papardelle with fish, prawns, and mussels. Good to know: - Group tours pick up from Halepa Hotel which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The path is lit and felt safe (even when walking at 545 am to catch the tour bus to Samaria Gorge) - The hotel is able to assist with booking group tours via Kyriakakis Travel which has options for group tours as well as private tours (you pay the tour company directly) - If you are leaving the hotel before breakfast starts, notify reception the day before and they will provide you with a breakfast box (this includes your day of departure) - If you are departing very early in the morning, consider settling your bill the night before (this is what I did based on a negative review I read on trip Advisor). The process was seamless. - The hotel can arrange a taxi for you. When you are ready to return to the hotel, simply call the hotel and they will arrange for a taxi to pick you up (Chania does not have Uber or Lyft). The taxis allow you to pay with credit cards. - Walking to Chania Old Town/city center and the lighthouse is easy, you just follow the coast 13 minute walk to Koum Kapi Beach 22 minute walk to Chania Venetian Harbor Guardhouse 25 minute walk along the coast to Chania Old town 30 minute walk to Lighthouse of Chania - The closest ATM is approximately 1 mile away from the hotel. The hotel accepts credit cards - you can charge spa services and meals to your room however it's nice to have cash for tips and the tour company they use only accepts cash (but there are plenty of online tour options that will let you pay via credit card)

From the moment we arrived until checkout, our stay at The Tanneries was absolutely amazing. The rooms were spotless, spacious, and beautifully designed—with stunning views that made our stay feel extra special. The service was outstanding at every level, from the valet team to housekeeping—everyone was warm, professional, and genuinely attentive. One thoughtful gesture that really stood out was when I had to check out early, and they provided take-away breakfast boxes since it was before the regular breakfast hours. That kind of care truly set them apart. A flawless experience from start to finish. Highly recommended!
