We’re so glad we chose this hotel for our stay. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful—nothing was ever too much trouble. Our room was spotless, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable; we both slept really well throughout our stay. The free shuttle bus was a fantastic bonus, and we made good use of it several times. The pool area is beautiful, with plenty of comfortable sunbeds to relax on. We would absolutely recommend this hotel and would love to return in the future.

Lovely hotel in a lovely traditional Crete village. Lovely staff, very accommodating with great service throughout our stay. We only had bed and breakfast, but there was a wide selection every morning which did change throughout the week. The traditional pie was amazing, and there was a good amount of choice for drink and savoury’s. The pool was extremely clean, and inviting, with lots of sun beds available. The stairs are quite a challenge so may not be suitable if this would be hard for you, we counted 60 steps to climb to get to the entrance of the hotel. Highly recommend Antami restaurant, and the oldest taverna in the village (koutoufari). The restaurant next to the hotel also offers a good food selection. There is also a shuttle bus the hotel offers at 11am, 3pm and 6pm which will stop you near the old town. If you walk further along the old town past the port, there is a stunning beach which we loved. There is also a beach restaurant which was lovely to sit at. Only cons is no entertainment, and we found some places you walk along are a little pushy. The rooms were lovely, we had superior which was a gorgeous and clean room. However the beds were a little uncomfortable. The hairdryer did also keep dying.

We’ll start by saying that some of our experience was down to timing. We visited Crete in the first week of April, unaware that the season doesn’t really start until after Greek Orthodox Easter. As a result, Koutouloufari and Piskopiano were very quiet, and many of the bars and restaurants in Hersonissos were closed. Parts of Hersonissos’ beachfront were being refurbished, giving it a bit of a building‑site feel. To top it off, the area was hit by a Saharan sandstorm just before we arrived, which didn’t help with first impressions. That said, we still expected the hotel itself to shine, particularly given the strong reviews and its 4★ rating with Jet2. Unfortunately, it fell short of that standard and felt closer to 3★. Pros + Staff were genuinely lovely, very accommodating and quick to respond to issues + Pool area is attractive, with plenty of loungers and cabanas + Pool bar was well stocked and served decent food at reasonable prices + Lovely coastal views from the grounds and sea‑view rooms + In peak season, the location would be great with bars and restaurants in nearby villages + Free shuttle bus (must be booked in advance) to near the coast is a nice touch Cons - Rooms are very basic in terms of furniture, beds and overall amenities - Sea‑view terraces are small, with only basic plastic furniture - Kitchen equipment is minimal — no dishcloths, washing‑up liquid or brushes provided - Bathrooms function more like wet rooms, with water spraying everywhere; shower heads in two rooms were clogged and weak - Pool is not heated - Lots of very steep steps to reach the top entrance and the road to the two villages, whilst the reception and pool is at the bottom We did experience several issues during our stay, including a broken air‑conditioning unit in our first room and an overflowing toilet in the second, whilst the pool remained closed for our entire visit due to the sandstorm. I don’t want to overstate these issues as the staff handled problems quickly and professionally, and no one can really prepare for the effects of the sandstorm. Overall, this review is mainly to manage expectations. The hotel is in a pleasant setting with good staff, but the 4★ rating raises expectations it doesn’t quite meet. Think more Travelodge‑style accommodation in a nice location, rather than a true 4★ resort.
