Been here 1 day, just had the Pan Asian alc……cannot tell you how FABULOUS it was….The service, the drink…..and the food was fantastic!!!!!! The waiting staff were top of their game……thank God I’m here for 2 weeks….BRING ON THE CRETAN Saturday!!!!

Spent two weeks here mid May. Hotel and resort in general is beautiful and well kept. It is quite remote in that there is not much to walk to locally. There is a Spar about a 15 minute stroll uphill if you turn right at the beach road. Other direction there are some shops and bars about a mile away. Beach - The beach is gritty and rocky but has a boardwalk along the width of the hotel. There are sun beds with a small adult only area beyond the beach bar. Food - We found the food to be good in the buffet but maybe not quite 5 star. However, we didn’t feel the need to go to the speciality restaurants. Would recommend the other food choices at the beach hut, crepes, theatre snack bar. Drinks were good but nothing special. The tiles in the pool were very slippery. Sun beds were comfy. Pool towels could be replaced on request with reception or housekeeping. Not ideal. We have experienced much better systems elsewhere. Entertainment - Good entertainment team. Lots on and the staff didn’t hassle you to take part. Night time entertainment very repetitive and not always as advertised, especially at the Theatre bar. Mostly geared to children. Room - Found the room let the experience down. The bathroom looked tired and in need of a good clean. Excess grout and silicon made it maybe seem dirtier than it was although the aqua panels were dirty. There was an occasional unpleasant smell coming from the shower drain. Given that the hotel was only a few weeks into the season, this was unexpected. Only two usable sockets in the room. Two others hidden behind furniture. No direct USB outlets. Mini fridge stocked every day but had to ask for coffees and milk. The outdoor clothes rack was directly below a drain pipe from upstairs balcony so when it rained it emptied directly onto rack. Personally I would welcome a self service laundry. Staff - The staff were all very friendly and efficient but must make a special mention and thank you to Nikos, Captain in the buffet in the evenings. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. General - took the street train. The stop at Old Hersonissos was nice. Nice place to pick up some gifts or souvenirs. Very reasonable prices. There are some shops in the hotel. The mini market is well stocked and the prices reasonable. There is a library but it is not well utilised. Don’t rely on it. We probably wouldn’t return to this hotel due to its location but would be willing to try other Mitsis hotels.

Having now stayed at two Mitsis properties, I left Mitsis Selection Laguna feeling disappointed and questioning the hotel's five-star credentials. While there are certainly some positives, particularly around the à la carte dining, the overall experience falls short of what I would expect from a genuine luxury resort. Overall Impression The hotel has the foundations of a five-star property, but too many elements lack the attention to detail, service standards and consistency required to justify that rating. The food in the à la carte restaurants is arguably the only area that consistently reaches five-star standard. Almost everything else falls somewhere between average and good, but rarely exceptional. Rooms We paid an additional €50 per night for a room upgrade near the shared pool, and in hindsight this was worthwhile. Many of the standard rooms appear to overlook the road at the front of the hotel, whereas our upgraded location significantly enhanced the overall experience. In truth, the room location was probably the single biggest positive of the holiday. Housekeeping was generally good, with rooms cleaned to a good standard. However, there appeared to be little regard for privacy. On more than one occasion housekeeping entered the room without adequate warning, including while I was changing. This is not something I have experienced at other hotels and felt surprising for a property positioning itself as five-star. Pools & Facilities The pool offering is decent, with a good variety of pools throughout the resort. However, there appeared to be a lack of engagement from the lifeguards, many of whom were regularly on their phones or wearing headphones rather than actively monitoring the pool areas. Whilst no incidents occurred during our stay, it did not inspire confidence, particularly for families with young children. Service Service is undoubtedly the area's biggest weakness. The staff themselves generally work extremely hard and many are genuinely friendly and helpful. However, they appear to be stretched far too thinly, which impacts the overall guest experience. Simple interactions often feel rushed. Staff frequently seem too busy to engage with guests, and basic service standards are inconsistent. At times, courses were delivered before previous plates had been cleared, even within the à la carte restaurants. In the buffet restaurant, drinks service was particularly poor – often only one drink would be offered during the meal, with lengthy waits and little follow-up thereafter. There were occasional examples of staff going above and beyond, but the overwhelming impression was that the team is overworked rather than undertrained. Food & Drink À La Carte Restaurants The standout feature of the hotel. The Greek, Fish, Asian and Italian restaurants were all excellent, serving food that genuinely felt premium and well-executed. These venues are the closest the hotel comes to delivering a true five-star experience. Unfortunately, the quality of the food is often undermined by inconsistent service and underwhelming drinks. Buffet Restaurant The buffet is adequate but uninspiring. Choice is more limited than expected, with many dishes feeling like slight variations of the same ingredients. It is not poor quality, but it lacks the variety, freshness and presentation expected at a luxury resort. Snacks Snack options are available but lack thought and presentation. For example, takeaway pizzas are served in paper bags, resulting in them becoming soft and unappetising before they are eaten. It is a small detail, but representative of a wider issue throughout the resort: a lack of attention to detail. The crêperie was an exception and one of the highlights of the stay. Flies around the food service areas were also a recurring issue. Drinks The drinks offering is another area where the hotel falls short. The beer selection is average at best. During our stay, the craft beer was either off or the cooling system was not functioning correctly, yet it continued to be served regardless. This again felt symptomatic of a lack of attention to detail. Soft drinks were equally disappointing. Diet Coke and other carbonated beverages were frequently flat and lacking flavour, which detracted from many mixed drinks. The cocktail menus are good, and the upstairs evening bar deserves special mention for serving genuinely well-made cocktails from 6pm onwards. Wine, however, was disappointing. It was typically served straight from the bottle with little consideration for temperature, presentation or allowing it to breathe, which diminished the overall experience. Beach Area The beach is separated from the main hotel by a road and an adjacent car rental area. This breaks the feeling of being within one cohesive resort and creates an unnecessary disconnect between the hotel and beach facilities. For families, the road is also a concern. Vehicles regularly travel at speed, making crossings less comfortable than they should be with young children. The beach itself is pleasant enough, but the sand is coarse and uncomfortable underfoot, often feeling sharp rather than soft. Entertainment After service, the evening entertainment is probably the weakest aspect of the hotel. Much of it felt amateur and, at times, genuinely awkward to watch. The children's entertainment in particular consisted largely of a makeshift stage and performers in costumes dancing through repetitive routines. The Thursday evening party was the clear exception and was genuinely enjoyable, with fireworks and a much stronger atmosphere. Outside of that, the entertainment programme was underwhelming and often failed to engage either adults or children. Staff One of the more noticeable aspects of the stay was the inconsistency among staff. Around half of the team were warm, friendly and engaging. The remainder often appeared disengaged, rarely acknowledging guests or responding to simple courtesies such as making way or saying thank you. Whilst this may partly stem from workload pressures, it contributes to an atmosphere that lacks the warmth expected from a premium hospitality brand. Final Verdict Mitsis Selection Laguna has some excellent individual components, most notably its à la carte restaurants, cocktail bar and upgraded poolside rooms. However, the resort is ultimately held back by inconsistent service, disappointing drinks, weak entertainment, average buffet dining and a persistent lack of attention to detail. The hotel markets itself as a five-star luxury resort, but in my view it falls short of that standard. It is closer to a strong four-star property with occasional five-star moments rather than a consistently premium experience. Having now stayed at two Mitsis properties, I feel the brand's standards no longer represent good value for money compared to alternative luxury hotel groups. As a result, I will be looking elsewhere for future holidays.
