Our stay had its ups and downs! King Minos retreat resort & spa is a beautiful hotel very picturesque and aesthetically pleasing; however how a hotel looks doesn’t always equal 5*. We stayed in the Sanctuary Suite Sea View, it has a reception room with a lovely terrace and private pool, the suite itself was beautiful, very roomy and private! The pool is cleaned everyday however on our last day the chemicals in the pool were very harsh and turned my blonde hair green and turned my husbands body hair and body green also, so we had to venture out to buy toiletries to try and undo the green - majority has washed out now thank god!! The location wasn’t the best, when booking the suite it did not explain that it was a good 5/7 minute walk uphill to the main bar and restaurant, we also booked all inclusive meaning we had to walk up and down to the main pool bar every time we wanted a drink as the hotel charged €15 per room service order! We pay over 4k for our flights, accommodation and transfers for our honeymoon and for the amount of money we paid we definitely expected more; we spent the majority of our time here sitting around the main pool as it was close to the pool bar so made the most of our all inclusive with drinks that way, but was a shame as we couldn’t sit by our own private pool we paid for. The pool bar service was rather slow I’m not sure their system works effectively, average wait for drinks was anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes which isn’t great! At points I would stand at the bar waiting and be ignored by staff, or they’d be busy and rush off before I would have a chance to order. When we booked the hotel it explained that when booking all inclusive it includes hot and cold snacks, the hot consisted of pizza slices and some sausage rolls and the cold was cold baguettes and wraps, however the pool bar does provide a lovely food menu but it is not included in the all inclusive unfortunately which is a shame! The food itself at the restaurants for lunch and dinner were very samey, nothing unique or fancy, very basic, would have been nice to see a bit of a mixture of different cuisines and options, but it was very limited, but the breakfast was lovely! Overall, I would say the hotel is beautiful but the service and basic running of the hotel is lacking, it is not very fit for purpose with the suites and being all inclusive, I would recommend people to stay half board and with a standard balcony room rather than paying the extra as your still paying for the standard when paying extra. Unfortunately we wouldn’t stay again on the basis of we felt we didn’t get what we paid for.
